Our Lady of Guadalupe School in the MSJ Dominican Tradition May 11, 2022 Issue 35 Dear OLG Families, I’ll never get tired of watching someone receive the Lord for the first time in the Eucharist! Saturday was such a joy-filled day because our Lord was able to be with these First Communicants in this remarkably, mysterious way of the bread and wine becoming Christ’s Body and Blood. I often tell my 8th graders in religion class that lots of people look at us and wonder at the sacrament – just as many of Jesus’ early followers did when he first told them. But we have the Lord in the Eucharist. We have the tangible host that has become Jesus’ Body with the words of consecration that we can touch and consume. What a Gift! May these young people receive our Lord as often as possible, in order to grow closer in their friendship with Jesus! The Spring Concert is next Monday, May 16 at 7:00 PM in the Parish Center. Our children have been practicing very much so that you will enjoy the Sounds of Spring experience. Today 4 tickets to the Spring Concert have been sent home with the oldest/only child. If you need more tickets, please let us know. If you have extras, please send them back to school. Please wear a mask for this evening since some of our little ones are still not able to get the vaccine. We will have all doors open for ventilation and will have some of our NASA grade air purifiers in the Parish Center. Thank you for your support of all the hard work our children have done to offer you this evening of music! (Art work by Eric Elizalde, Class of 2022) As we know, COVID-19 has not gone anywhere; we’re learning to live with it. Thank you to our families for your continued care and focus on safety. Remember, if your child is not feeling well, please keep him/her home and do an at-home COVID test. Please see the latest COVID-19 Guidelines attached to this email. Congratulations to us! Our on-line Auction and Golf Tournament netted 116% over budget! Our United with Ukraine Week raised 150% of our goal of $350 = $525! Thank you, God, for such generosity among our school community and our generous supporters and donors! May these Easter Season days continue to fill each of us with God’s Life! With Joy, S. Janice Therese, O.P

Dear Families, We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. This event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries, prepare for summer reading, and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school. After missing out on many beloved traditions, our Spring Book Fair will be a familiar, welcome, and safe event for our students. Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from May 20-26, 2022 in the last portable building (the science room/old 5th grade classroom). Our Book Fair offers eWallet, a safe and secure alternative to cash. Simply create a free account to add funds and/or invite family and friends to contribute so your child can select their own books. Any unused funds can be spent at The Scholastic Store Online or to fund a future eWallet. If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school. Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/ourladyofguadalupeschool5 We’re excited to celebrate our love of books together at the Book Fair. We look forward to seeing your child there! Happy reading, Ms. Colon
