PARENT BULLETIN No. 17 11th June, 2021 Welcome I hope you and your families had a good half term. There is quite a lot in this week’s bulletin, which I hope you find informative. Firstly, some great news that our, now famous, Gadirova twins in Year 11 have made it onto Team GB for the Tokyo Olympics. We were never in doubt and had our fingers crossed, so we will be cheering them on. See below for details. On a slightly more sombre note, an update to all head teachers from Public Health England in Bucks notified us of the increase in cases of the Delta variant. This variant is seemingly more transmissible and could lead more cases of students missing school. We have been warned not to reduce or remove any of our current restrictions and we will follow this guidance strictly and continue with our existing measures. If you have any questions about anything in this bulletin, please contact enquiries@theacademy.me Take care and stay safe Gavin Gibson Academy Principal Lateral Flow Tests With the above information in mind, please can I remind parents to continue to conduct your Lateral Flow Tests at home on Wednesdays and Sundays and log your result with us: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=vujYj3JiOk- ROacP9_VtsLsz7hMW8FlCt826ukpqQWFUMTlRUFZYQjJFSkJDNDYzQkU1TTQ2M1hUSS4u Furthermore, if your child tests positive or displays symptoms, please do not send them into school and call 01296 428551 or email enquiries@theacademy.me
Gadirova Twins off to the Tokyo Olympics! Both Jennifer and Jessica Gadirova of Aylesbury Vale Academy have been selected to represent Great Britain in the artistic gymnastics team at the Tokyo Olympics. Jessica soared to European Championships glory on the floor last month with Gold and silver and bronze medals in the vault and all- round events. Jennifer, who missed that event through injury, has also emerged as one of Team GB’s hottest prospects. We wish them both the best of luck and look forward to watching them in the Summer. Attendance Matters Good attendance at school is essential for students to do well. It is very important that students should attend school regularly and arrive on time. Time missed from school can have serious educational consequences. It is parents/carers responsibility to ensure that students are at school on time, every day, unless they have a good reason for absence. If for any reason students are unable to attend school, parents/carers must notify the school on each day of absence either by phoning 01296 428551, pushing option 1 for absence line or emailing attendance@theacademy.me . Students must also bring a note of explanation on the day they return to school. Any parent/carer wishing to discuss their son’s/daughter’s attendance is welcome to contact the school’s Attendance Officer using the contract detail above. Parents/carers are advised that a students’ persistent unauthorised absence from school may lead to a fine being issued. Attendance Team Hay Fever Medication Due to the very high pollen count this time of year, we need to remind you that we cannot administer hay fever medication in school unless we have signed consent and you have provided the medication. All students who require medication should be taking this before they leave for school. If you need to discuss this with the Medical Officer Mrs Ripley please call Main Reception or email enquiries@theacademy.me. Ms Ripley, Medical Officer Library News I'm very pleased to be able to share with parents and carers that after more than a year students are at long last able to return to the Academy's Library for book borrowing and reading lessons. Building on these lessons we are also introducing a new reading scheme for all years during their tutorials. Called "Read to Succeed" the initiative encourages students to read a book of their choice and then complete an activity based on that book.
I'd be grateful if the Parents and Carers of students in Years 8 - 10 could remind their children to kindly return any school library books which they still have outstanding from before the lockdown. Understandably after so long many may have forgotten that they have a borrowed book or books. If they are unsure please ask them to talk to me and I will be happy to check. As part of National School Sports Week, we are holding a 'Design your own house flag' which students from Year 7-10 can enter. The flag should represent their house and entries are to be given to any member of the PE Dept. by Friday 25th June. The winning entries will be made into a flag which will be made and displayed at Sports Day 2022. Ms Fuller, Curriculum Leader, PE Uniform Exchange If your child has grown out of their blazer or branded PE kit, we will happily take it off your hands. Similarly, if you have a blazer that you want to swap for a different size, and it is in reasonably good condition, we are happy to swap for a larger one if we have one.
