Friday 11th June 2021 Dear Families, It has been an eventful two weeks since our last newsletter. Our first event to report on was the Biggest Morning Tea held at the Senior Citizens Hall in Queenscliff on what was a very rainy day. All students at QPS worked very hard in the kitchen in the two weeks prior to prepare some sweet and savoury dishes to share at the morning tea and our grades 4-6 students assisted greatly in plat- ing up food, serving drinks and collecting donations for the Cancer Council. The students’ cooking was compli- mented by copious amounts of donated dishes from our QPS families. We would like to extend a very warm ‘Thank you’ to all of our volunteers who worked tirelessly to set up our venue, prepare prizes, prepare and serve food and hot drinks and provide great conversations to all of our guests. By all accounts, it was a very successful event we raised a total amount of $1543.50. Thank you and congratulations to all involved in this event. The Biggest Morning Tea was closely followed by the return to remote and flexible learning. Our lockdown saw us have a student free day on Friday and then remote learning for 4 days from Monday to Thursday. I would like to commend the work of all QPS staff for transitioning into and out of remote and flexible learning with minimal interruption to learning for all of our students. It was great to see a combination of online work, take home ac- tivities and ongoing support from our education support staff working with students. On behalf of all of our staff, we would like to thank our families for supporting your children at home. We recognise that remote learning is challenging for us all, which helps us to appreciate all the fun times we get to have at school. We have another visit from the coffee van booked in for Thursday 17th June at school from 2.30-3.30pm, weather permitting. Helene will post on skoolbag if we need to cancel due to bad weather. The van will be in the same place as last time. We look forward to seeing you all in the school yard. Can we please remember if you are stay- ing for a much needed cup of coffee, that you follow all COVID guidelines by, signing in to the school, using hand sanitizer when possible, wearing a mask and ensure that we are maintaining social distancing. Just a quick note for parents of grade 6 students about offers for secondary school placements. Students will be notified of their placements on the Wednesday 4th of August. Parent Teacher Interviews - Helene has currently posted available appointment times sheets in the foyer at school. Parents are invited to come into the foyer to select their preferred time to meet with their child’s teacher for parent teacher interviews. These will be conducted in week 2 of term 3 on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21 st of July. Interviews will start at 3.30pm and conclude at 6.30pm. School reports – Due to the COVID snap lockdown and interruption to assessment and report writing, the Depart- ment of Education have extended to timeframe for all school to complete and administer reports to families. At QPS we will be sending reports home on the first day back at school for students which is Tuesday 13th of July. One final date to put in your diaries at this stage is for school photos. This will happen of Friday 16 th July which is in week 1 of term 3. I hope that all families get to enjoy the break over the long weekend. We have also been informed that the police have been seen pulling people over at the Point Lonsdale school crossing. We are still noticing families dropping off and doing U-turns out the front. Local Bylaws : The Local Bylaws Officers have contacted the school in regards to the parking of cars at the front of the school in no parking zones and while the crossing flags are displayed. They are also concerned why the children are crossing at the front of the school with the roundabout so close and the bus zone, when there is a supervised flagged school crossing at the front of the school. The officers have advised that they will be monitoring this crossing area and the no parking zones. The safety of your children is important to us and we request that your children please use the cross- ing morning and afternoons. Please remember that at the front of the school there is a ‘No Standing’ area and an ‘Accessible Parking’ zone. School Office Hours Monday - Friday 8.30am to 4pm Phone: 5258 1696

The Biggest Morning Tea was a wonderful success with our school raising $1543.50 for the Cancer Council. A very big thankyou to everyone involved on the day, the food was delicious and the hall was filled with smiling faces. A special mention to Lisa Golightly, Naomi Grillinzoni, Helene Cameron and Sylvia Tom- kin for making it all happen. Thank you to everybody who participated in the chocolate fundraising campaign. We have made $1659.50 profit so far. We still have a number of boxes left at the school. If you think you could sell some more, in your workplace or elsewhere, please to us at the office.
Our Borough has partnered with the Geelong Community Solar Program as part of the region’s largest ever community solar bulk buy program. Council endorsed a community-led climate emergency response plan on 19 May with a key target of transitioning Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff to a 100% renewable electrici- ty supply by 2025. We can all play an important role by investigating if we can produce our own electricity as residents or businesses – while saving significantly on power bills in the process. There are a few ways to get involved: Register for a webinar at 2pm 22 June or 6pm 8 July to learn: · How solar and batteries work · What you should consider when going solar or installing batteries · What brands and technologies are available today · How this program works and how you can get involved · How much a system can save on power bills and how much a system costs. If you can’t make these sessions, you can view a recording of a prior webinar HERE. Or request a consultation by registering HERE.
