St Paul’s Catholic School Thursday 9th December, 2021 Vision: At St Paul’s we know, love and serve God. A gentle reminder of our school’s values S elf-less Whaiaro-iti T rustworthy Whakapono P roud to be Catholic Ngakaunui Ki a Katorikia A dventurous Rikarika U nderstanding Mohiotanga L oving Aroha S triving for Excellence E Tohe mo te Hiranga Kia Ora, Koutou, We are now one week away from finishing the 2021 academic year. Teachers are currently finishing off writing school reports; these reports will be sent home next week. Prizegiving Prizegiving will be different this year due to restrictions on gathering numbers, now (50) - I have recently heard that since prizegiving is seen as a non-curriculum event, the prize giving will need to follow ‘orange’ restrictions. If you come to the prizegiving, we don't need to know your vaccination status as it is a non vaccine passport event but adults will need to wear a mask and sign in using the QR Code. Finer details to come. All Year 8s will be going to prizegiving and each Year 8 student can have one adult/parent with them. Students who are not in Year 8 and are receiving either a trophy or cup will receive an invitation from the school to attend prizegiving and each of these students will also be able to bring one adult/parent with them. The other awards we usually give out at prizegiving will be handed out at school before the end of the year. Community Survey - Whaanau Voice Thank you to everyone who filled out the ‘Whaanau Voice’ survey. We had a good response rate with 44 out of 83 families completing the survey. The class with the highest percentage response rate was in Kowhai Class, ka mau te wehi! Kowhai Class will be receiving hot chips tomorrow. Awesome! The three whaanau winning the 3 x $50 petrol vouchers are: Watts Whaanau Mawkes Whaanau Burns Whaanau The Board will now analysis this data and used it to help plan our strategic plan for 2022 and beyond. Cognition Education Voice In Term 3, as part of the school’s Relationship Based Learning pedagogy professional development, Cognition Education collected voice about learning at school. Students, parents and teachers were part of this voice collec- tion. This voice will work alongside the voice the Board has collected to help strategic planning for 2022 and be- yond. The voice collected by Cognition Education was categorised into what things are done at the school to ena- ble learning and what things are barriers to learning. Following are some of the things we learnt: Enablers for learning We are encouraged to help our peers meet expectations in gentle ways. We really enjoy getting choices to learn about different topics that are really interesting. We like teachers who involve us and ask about what we want to learn and how we want to learn it. Most students are friendly but we are not all friends. Different untraditional subjects and unpredictable curious things. There are alot of intergeneral connections and relationships here. We experienced school as very supportive during transitioning into the school as a new whānau. Barriers for learning When there are problems between students - teachers always believe the seniors. We like getting extra support from teacher aide but sometimes we miss out on other things. In a small school you can experience the same students being promoted and recognised for all the good things. Small numbers mean there is a lack of competition or teams with sport etc.
Reflection for the third week of Advent! The third week begins this Sunday and two purple candles plus one pink candle are lit on the Advent Wreath. Lord God, we wait for Christmas with joy. When we get busy buying presents, may we think of you. When we wake up on Christmas Day, may we think of you. Amen. Reflection for the fourth week of Advent! During the fourth week of Advent, all four candles are lit. Lord God, We thank you for this holy Advent season and we remember that we are: blessed when we find you in the music of Christmas. blessed when we find you in the giving of presents. blessed when we find you during the sharing of Christmas food. blessed when we find you in each other. Amen.

The best things you can do to stop the spread of illnesses. • Stay at home and away from others if you are sick. • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue. (Tissues are supplied in every classroom) • Put used tissues into a rubbish bin. • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth - germs spread that way. • Wash hands often with soap and dry them thoroughly - HAND HY- GIENE IS CRITICAL.
