Cogenhoe Primary School York Avenue Cogenhoe Northants NN7 1NB Mrs S Blackwell Telephone/Fax: 01604 890380 ______________________________________________________________________________________ INSPIRE. ASPIRE. ACHIEVE Date: Friday 24th September 2021 http://cogenhoe.northants.sch.uk/ Dear Parents and Carers, It felt so wonderful to have the children back in our school hall for our first Whole School Celebration Assembly this week- I know they really enjoyed seeing each other and having the chance to show off their wonderful walking, legendary lining up and super sitting. As a lover of books, I was super pleased to find out some children have completed the Summer Reading Challenge. The children proudly showed their certificates and were able to talk confidently about their favourite books. Keep them coming in! After the Assembly, the children who completed their Year group Project Conquer Steps enjoyed an Afternoon Tea as well as receiving a certificate to take home. Well done to those children, who despite a challenging year mastered so many new skills. Our challenge this year, is for all the children to get their names on the Project Conquer wall. If your child needs support at school to complete a step, please do speak to your class teacher. Pre-School and Reception New Starters. There will be a lot of tired but happy children coming home tonight as they have completed their first full week. It really does feel like they have been part of the Cogenhoe Family for much longer. They are settling into new routines, making friends and enjoying investigating their new engaging learning environments. Well done teachers too! Sporting Success. A team from Years 5&6 have been chosen to represent Cogenhoe School in the Wellingborough and East Northants School Sport Partnership football league, comprising 9 teams from across the county. Their first match was played on Wednesday at Redwell Leisure Centre. A huge well done, they came top - winning 5 and drawing one! We wish them well in the next two matches and hope they enjoy further success. A team from Years 3&4 played in a football festival at Wollaston school on Thursday afternoon. Fantastic news, they won 5, drew one and only lost 1 resulting in them becoming joint winners! This is the first time some of these children have had the chance to represent the school in a competitive way –well done team!
Our Very Own Super Champ. We are our so proud of Jack Webb (Year 5) who we are delighted to announce has won the NLTC Mini Orange (9/U) Champion 2021 and then went on to also win NLTC Mini Green (10/U) Champion 2021 at Northampton Lawn Tennis Club! His name will go up on the NLTC honours board for both of these tournaments. Obviously, Jack is delighted and can remember starting his sporting success when he was only 5 years old. Move over, Emma Raducanu. We will keep you posted. Watch this space. After School Halloween Bags. Mrs Minney is preparing her spooky Halloween filled Trick ’n Treat Bags Cost: £3.50 each. Online Parent Workshop Teachers have been trained this week to deliver this programme and are very excited to start using it to support key children. Thursday 30th September 2021 (7-9pm) Jogo Behaviour Support will be delivering a parent workshop online on ‘Understanding and supporting your child with uncertainty and anxiety.’ All of our children have experienced a tricky 12 months with the pandemic and changes in routine. If your child is struggling with uncertainty or anxiety, it might
be worthwhile joining this workshop. Please email admin@cogenhoeprimary.org if you would like to book a place on this workshop. Please provide me with your email address for your zoom invite which will be sent to you nearer the time. Mrs Blackwell’s Recommended Reads For younger readers, I recommend the book ‘Sulwe’ by Lupita Nyong’o and ‘Julian is a Mermaid’ by Jessica Love. Both are beautiful stories about individuality, acceptance and understanding who we are and being proud of ourselves. The illustrations are also wonderful. For older readers, I recommend the book: ‘You are a Champion’ by Marcus Rashford. This book is motivating and empowering. Marcus draws on his life before football and anyone who is looking to develop their resilience and self-belief should definitely read this. I particularly love the quotes dotted throughout it. A good one to read as a family. I also recommend: ‘Anisha Accidental Detective’ by Serena Patel and ‘Cyborg Cat’ by Ade Adepitan. Both books made me laugh aloud and are action packed. .
