To our Year 6 students leaving Owairoa on Friday 18th December, we wish you every success and happiness as you venture out of here onto the “Pathway to the Future”. We trust that you have gained the resilience, self-management and the necessary skills in your formative years of your education and make the most of the windows of opportunity that open up for you. We will miss you
We are currently stocktaking our school resources in preparation for a quick return to study in the New Year. Unfortunately, we always have a few resources not returned to school and these resources are expensive to replace. We are having an amnesty of all resources e.g. library books, instructional reading books, school journals, sports uniforms, etc. from now until the end of the year. Please check at home under the bed, down the back of the sofa and in your cupboards to locate school resources and return them to school, no questions asked. Finance Matters Our school Executive Officer-Finance Jane Huang commented on the years financial situation as follows; “As the end of year is fast approaching, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents who have made their annual donation to the school. Your contribution is a very important component of the Board of Trustees yearly budget. Thank you for using myKindo and/or ezlunch this year through our Kindo Online School Shop. You make our job so much easier. Just a couple of quick things as the year comes to a close… If your family is moving to another school that does not use ezlunch or myKindo for school payments, you need to close your account- use the ‘close account’ button on that screen. You can choose to donate your balance to school (where available) or have it paid out to your nominated bank account. Let’s all support Owairoa Primary School, and continue to help make it a great school for all. We wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!” Jane Huang Executive Officer-Finance Catherine Moselen’s Christmas story
Sharing is caring Many thanks to all staff and families who supported our recent Food Bank Christmas Appeal The two ute loads of donated food items were delivered to the local Salvation Army Food Bank.
Owairoa Adventure Rangers Owairoa Adventure Rangers have had a whale of a time with the focus on New Zealand Marine Mammals as our topic this term, with the end goal of becoming competent marine medics. This week the Adventure Rangers took on their biggest challenge of the year to rescue a pod of Owairoa whales that had become stranded on the school field. The students excitedly and professionally assessed the situation and managed to identify, protect and evacuate all the whales to their safe zones. Among the skills that were applied was their knowledge of whale body parts, species identification and first aid skills all learnt during the term. Being responsible rangers, each team only received a quarter of a bucket each of water with which to keep their cetaceans alive and those with extra left over at the end got the reward of an optional spray down of their own before returning to their classes happy that they had passed their Marine test. d Looking ahea December 18 th Last day of Term 4 at The final day for Term Four will be on Students dismissed 12.30pm Friday 18th December, finishing at 12.30pm.
