Sutherland North Public School School-talk – 20 May 2019 Term 2 - 2019 Principal’s Message – Fiona Young May Thank you So far there has been a great response to our new school stream Monday 20 app. We now have 217 people using the app. The aim is to have DanceFever Athletics K-6 100% of families signed up. Please encourage others if they haven’t DanceSport yet set up an account. We are adding more categories to the app Tuesday 21 every week as we get more familiar with it. Tuesday 28 School Photos – winter uniform Senior Choir 8.30am Kindergarten Enrolments 2020 Ukulele Group 1.30pm We are now accepting enrolment applications for 2020. Any school Music Bus 1.00pm families with pre-schoolers turning 5 years by 31 July 2020 and are Debating Round 2 ready for school are eligible to enrol. If you have family, friends or Wednesday 29 neighbours interested in enrolling at Sutherland North, please Counsellor Day encourage them to enrol soon, so that plans for transition to Music Bus 1.00pm Kindergarten can be developed. We will be holding a Starting Stage 1 Excursion Darling School information session for parents on Wednesday 14 August 2019 Harbour from 6 - 7pm. Our Kindergarten Transition activities for the children will Thursday 30 be held in Term 4. Assembly 12.30pm Friday 31 Early Departure PSSA Sport If parents need to collect children during school hours where possible, please make these collection times outside of break times; recess – 11am-11.30am or lunch 1.15pm-2.00pm. This will ensure you are not kept waiting longer than necessary while staff try to locate children in the playgrounds. Providing the teacher with a brief note on the day can also help the school to have your child ready and waiting in the office area. Congratulations Congratulations to the Sutherland North students that represented our school at the Zone Cross Country. A tremendous effort was put in by every student who participated. Sutherland North Public School - Newsletter 2019 P&C BBQ On behalf of the staff and students at SNPS I would like to sincerely thank our school community: the P&C, parents, carers and staff who volunteered their time and donated goods for the election day BBQ and cake stall. It was a huge success raising $3700 for the school which is going towards new readers for the students. A special thank you to Mrs Hamilton who did a wonderful job as co-ordinator for this event. School Photos School photos will be taken on Tuesday 28 May. Winter school uniform is required for photo day. There are 2 ways you can purchase school photos either in cash using the envelopes that have been provided or by making an online payment. If you are making an online payment no envelope is required. If ordering sibling photos online they must be ordered by midnight Monday 27 May otherwise orders will need to be made in cash using the sibling envelope which can be collected from the school office and will be handed to the photographer on the day. Portraits and group packages can be ordered online up until Saturday 1 July. Sutherland North Public School 2019 CROSS COUNTRY A big thank you to: Mrs Gardner, Mr Peacock and Mrs Sabljak. Sutherland North Public School - Newsletter 2019 An outstanding effort by all! On Monday 13th May, some of our students competed at the Zone Cross Country carnival. Mrs Rees and I were incredibly proud of the student’s excellent behaviour and strong spirit to keep running. Sutherland North Public School - Newsletter 2019 Return and Earn Container Collection As a fundraising opportunity Sutherland North Public School have joined forces with the Return and Earn Container Collection. We have been able to secure the school as a drop off and pick up point for recyclables. So far we have been doing a great job bringing in the containers, keep up the great work! All funds generated from recyclables collected will go towards outdoor play equipment. ELIGIBLE DRINK CONTAINERS Under Return and Earn, most empty 150ML to 3 Litre drink containers are eligible for a 10 cent refund. These include: • Plastic • Aluminium • Steel • Liquid paperboard (cartons) CONTAINERS MUST BE EMPTY, UNCRUSHED, UNBROKEN AND HAVE THE ORIGINAL LABEL ATTACHED CONTAINERS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A RETURN Containers that are not included in the Scheme and, therefore, do not qualify for a refund are: • plain milk or milk substitute containers • flavoured milk containers of 1 litre or more • pure fruit or vegetable juice containers of 1 litre or more • glass containers for wine or spirits • casks (plastic bladders in boxes) for wine and casks or water of 1 litre or more • sachets for wine of 250 millilitres or more • containers for cordials, or concentrated fruit and vegetable juices Students are asked to please bring in empty containers before school. Our Eco Team Warriors will be stationed near the 4/5M classroom to collect containers from students. As the containers are collected, our Eco Warriors will identify the class the student is from and provide them with a coloured token. Each class has their own token box for the students to place their tokens in. The token boxes will be collected every five weeks to determine which class has the most tokens.
