A Letter From The Editor: Welcome To The Family Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members: On behalf of the staff at Poolville Elementary School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2021-22 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest possible potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a tremendous difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success. The team and I want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out this responsibility. Together, we ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he or she: ● Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience. ● Completes all homework assignments or extension projects given by the teachers. ● Reads daily to develop a stronger love for reading and to improve overall literacy skills. ● Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his or her school life. ● Informs you if he or she needs additional support in any area or subject. ● Knows that you expect him or her to succeed in school. Our students can greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions. We seek volunteers to help us with the following activities: ● Teacher-led instructional support (usually in the classroom) ● Reading with children who need extra help ● School-wide fundraising or celebratory events ● Student recognition events, and ● Outreach and recruitment of incremental parent and community volunteers Several informational documents traveled home with your Monarch this week. Many of these documents require signatures before they can be returned to the campus. If you have any questions about these forms, please feel free to contact me or your child’s teacher. It is very important that you and your child are fully informed regarding campus rules, procedures, and expectations. The wonderful Poolville Elementary School staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this team. We thank you for your support and look forward to working hard for you. Enthusiastically, Jason Cheslock Principal Poolville Elementary School
Here are a few cool educational experiences our Monarchs enjoyed this week. We Shared Our Mission, Vision, and Values... We Shared Our Theme... We Sharpened Our Focus... In a former life, I was raised on the importance of, "Start strong, stay strong, and finish strong by always remembering why you are doing it in the first place." The "why" for PES in 2021-2022 ties to the 7 S.E.A.S. ● The "7" is symbolic of the number of grade levels supported by the campus. ● The "S.E.A.S." is a battle cry acronym. It stands for Successfully Educating All Students. Last year I challenged the elementary school to put the "L" back in "Poolville".
The missing "L" represented: ● Lifelong Learning ● Literacy ● Laughter ● Leadership ● Love, and ● The Lord This year, I again challenged TEAM PES. We will not abandon the "L" words. However, we will further task ourselves to change "Poolville" into a learning-centered "Coolville". At "Coolville" we will: ● Celebrate what we want to replicate ● Create a culture of high expectations and student success ● Cultivate teamwork and togetherness, and ● Challenge ourselves to maximize every learning opportunity to the fullest We Optimized The Learning Environment For The Students… When a school creates a welcoming, emotionally supportive learning environment, everyone wins. This environment allows students to develop a sense of belonging, which then helps them learn important academic and social/emotional skills. Strengthening relationships with all students also produces fewer discipline problems in the classroom. Here are some cool pics detailing environmental positivity as PES!
We Launched Our Daily, Digital Announcements (The Anti-News)... Research suggests that we can learn a lot from exemplars. However, did you know that an example can be either positive or negative? I offer this on the eve of our daily digital news announcement launch. The news serves a tremendous purpose. Lately, that purpose can be summarized as follows.... "News stations begin by saying good morning, good afternoon, or good evening. What follows AFTER that salutation usually suggests all the reasons why it's not good!" So.....this year we will be the "anti-news"! This year we will feature faculty members, central office teammates, and our amazing students in our digital daily announcements to promote: - Teamwork - Positivity - Our national and state pledges, and - An inspirational thought for the day Please visit our social media pages each morning to catch the "Anti-News"! : ). We Hosted ‘Meet The Teacher’... A wise person once said, "At our best, we are all teachers!" Poolville Elementary School needs you to be at our best for every amazing Monarch throughout the 2021-2022 school year. To kick things off, we were energetically joined by 447 parents, community members, and guardians at this year's meet the teacher event. Event specifics included: Date: August 16, 2021 Time: 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Location: Poolville Elementary School Registered Participants: 447 community members
We Celebrated What We Want Replicated (Class and Student of the Week)... - Student of the Week - An educational truism tells us, "Real education consists of drawing the goodness and the best out of students." I am pleased to report that the amount of "goodness" spilling out of this week's PES Student of the Week might cause a tidal wave. Get your popcorn and surfboards ready! We hope you enjoy the video presentation posted on our campus Facebook page. Congratulations Atreyu Perez! - Class of the Week - This is an "All-Points Bulletin". An APB is an electronic information broadcast sent from one sender to a group of recipients, in order to rapidly communicate an important message. The technology used to send this broadcast has varied throughout time (teletype, radio, computerized bulletin board systems (CBBS), and the internet). I need to use our internet to send this educational APB! Do you recognize these students? These wonderful mighty Monarchs have been named "The PES Class of the Week"! They originated from Mrs. Stults's 5th-grade homeroom class. Recently eyewitness reports indicate that they have been seen demonstrating the following qualities: * School Pride * Respect * Teamwork * Academic Grit, and
* Kindness Eyewitness reports also suggest that these individuals will travel throughout the building with a giant school flag! Please help me locate these model students! In Summary… With school being a nearly universal rite-of-passage for youth, it’s little wonder that so many artists for so many decades have written songs about school. The topics vary from teachers, to pride, to academics, to emotions about education; but what stays the same is how each generation finds its ways of highlighting its experiences and memories. No list of songs about school would be complete without at least one song declaring the virtues of school pride, and few songs so eloquently put it as “Be True To Your School.” The lyrics equate being “true” to one’s school to being faithful to those one holds close in their life. Here are several week 1 school pics of individuals and students that hold a close place in my life and heart!
It was a great week to be a Monarch! Thank you Poolville. Together we can achieve so much MORE! - Jason Cheslock Please check us out on Facebook for even more details!
