Lateral Flow Tests
Staff in school have the opportunity to take part in twice weekly testing using Lateral Flow Tests. These are the
tests that secondary school pupils were expected to use if they returned to school in January. It is important to
remember that if any staff member tests positive then we will almost certainly have to close a bubble and all
contacts in the bubble will need to isolate for 10 days. The procedures we have put in place to protect staff
combined with good luck have ensured that we have not had to close a bubble so far.
Please support us by not sending pupils to school if they are displaying symptoms or you have concerns about their
health. Also please remember if you, or a member of your family bubble need to go and have a test, pupils need to
stay at home until the result is known.
Leader of The Pack
In 1965 the Shangri-Las released the song ‘Leader of the Pack’ later it was covered by
the chipmunks and also used in Lurpack TV adverts. Fast forward to 2021 and the
impact and role of leaders is a heavily debated subject. In the UK Boris Johnson is the
leader of the Great Britain Pack and in America Donald Trump recently left his
position as leader. The assembly pupils had an opportunity to watch this week talked
about leadership and the qualities of a good leader it also set pupils two challenges:
Challenge 1: Make a list of things you would do if you were Prime Minister
Challenge 2: Lead a Fitness Session for your family or friends
Please send in the results of any challenges you do - I would love to see them.
The Hill We Climb
The inauguration of Joe Biden provided an opportunity for Amanda Gorman (The
National Youth Poet Laureate) to read her Poem ‘The Hill We Climb’. It was brilliant
to see her read her own poem with such confidence and conviction. I particularly liked
the last part of the poem that I have shared with you below.
Lockdown Extended
Staff in school heard at the same time as you that the earliest Schools can reopen is
March 8th. We are hopeful that things will continue to improve so that when we
reach that date it is safe to open for pupils, parents and staff. In the meantime, please
get in touch if we can help you in any way. I appreciate the challenges of home
learning but thank you to those parents who are able to keep their children at home
to reduce contact opportunities at school.
Home Learning Survey
Thank you to the parents who completed our ‘Home Learning’ survey we have taken
note of your comments and we have shared the positivity with staff but we are also
looking at ways we can continue to develop our provision with the suggestions you
gave us.
Apologies
This picture of Donald Trump in disguise, that appeared on the internet, trying to
sneak back into the White House raised a smile this week! There will be a prize for
the person (Selected at Random) who emails in with the name of the film his disguise
is inspired by! (Email: Headteacher@alverton.n-yorks.sch.uk)
It has been a challenging week for our community - but I am proud of the support
that members of staff and parents have been able to offer as well as how the whole
community has come together to support one another.
Thank you for your continued support - Take Care

when our mixture didn’t look like
everyone else’s but our cookies tasted
delicious.”

Friends of the Friarage
We have been approached by local charity, the Friends of the Friarage with
an exciting task for pupils to get involved with. They are looking to redesign
their logo and would love to give their designer some inspiration from the
next generation. They have sent us a document which you will find on the
next page of this newsletter, you can print it out and ask your child to
complete. The trustees of the charity will be selecting ten of their
favourites and awarding a £10 book voucher to those pupils. Completed
artwork should be emailed to celia.curry@nhs.net. However, if email is not
an option, they could also be posted via: Friends of the Friarage, Room 47
admin building, Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, North Yorkshire, DL6 1JG.

In FS2 we have been making
                                                        delicious birdcakes to hang on
                                                                our school trees.
                                                            We hope the birds will
                                                                  enjoy them.
                                                        Brodey-May has made some
                                                         yummy ones at home too.
