Canon Barnett Primary School Newsletter 697 19th March 2021 Happy Red Nose Day! As always, our community has rallied around to support those in need. It was great to see the children in red or superheroes costumes and we have had some great designs for red noses.Have a look at the website to see which designs you like. The last time I checked we had raised an amazing £114 on our Justgiving page but there is still time to donate. Click on the link here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/canon-barnett-primary-school-rednoseday21 Soundcastle Project Year 6 have been busy working with Soundcastle to create a piece of music called ‘Aldgate at Dawn’. The project is a community project which are working with groups across Aldgate and then drawing all the ideas together to create an original piece of music. I will be in touch when the final composition is ready to be heard. Polling Day: Thursday 6th May School will be closed on Thursday 6th May for Polling Day. Children will be given an ‘offline’ learning pack for this day to complete at home. Year 4: Virtual Spitalfields Music Year 4 have started their music project with Spitalfields Music. They are exploring the idea is ‘Island of the Self’. The musicians involved in the project have been very impressed with the children’s creativity and focus during their sessions End of term: Friday 26th March A reminder that next Friday will be the last week of term. Pick up times as follows: Nursery 11:45 (as normal) Reception 1:50 Year 1 and 2 1:50 Year 3 and 4 2:00 Year 5 and 6 2:10
Test kits for families If you are a member of a household, childcare bubble of a pupil, student or staff of a school, nursery or college, you are able to pick up lateral flow tests to enable you to take twice weekly tests. These can be collected from the locations below between 1:30 and 7pm. These children particularly stood out for showing respect. We celebrated together on our first ever virtual celebration assembly. WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS ● Join Tower Hamlets Council on Monday 22 March at 7pm for a live virtual discussion and Q&A session on Covid-19 vaccination. ● A panel of health experts, including Director of Public Health Dr Somen Banerjee, will answer your questions on the vaccine. Somali/English translations will be available during the webinar, to ensure our Somali residents can receive information in their community language. ● While this event is tailored for Somali residents, anyone can join the discussion. ● Register now and submit your question to the panel in advance. Tower Hamlets Together: new community film marking first anniversary of lockdown The Council is releasing a new community film next Tuesday, 23 March, to mark the anniversary of the UK's first Covid-19 lockdown. Throughout the past year, it has been incredibly heartening to see so many residents, volunteers, community groups, partner organisations and council staff working together from across our diverse communities in response to the pandemic. Through our #TowerHamletsTogether film, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped to keep Tower Hamlets healthy, safe and supported throughout the past year - from key workers and volunteers to all those who stayed at home, got tested, and took the vaccine when offered to protect our community. We will release this two-minute film on our social channels at 8am next Tuesday, 23 March, using the hashtag #TowerHamletsTogether. Please watch, share and like the video to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone in our community for helping to get us through the past year. Suicide Prevention Overview Training (for parents only) ● Tuesday 23rd March 2021, 11.30 – 1pm ● Through open and honest talk, the session aims to increase awareness of the prevalence of young suicide and aims to break stigma and taboo surrounding suicide. ● This session will encourage parents to consider the question 'should we talk about suicide?', uncovering attitudes and beliefs around this question in order to shatter the stigma that can surround suicide. ● This training will be held online. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions of the LA Head of SEND John O’Shea and SEND IASS Manager Jenny Miller. The session will be held over Zoom. The main changes are:
school will reopen to all pupils you can meet 1 person from another household outside We ask all members of our community to follow the rules to keep everyone safe. Covid symptoms: a reminder If your child has a temperature (this may only be for a short time),a new continuous cough or loss of taste and smell. Please isolate your family, order a NHS test and report the symptoms (and test results once received) to school. If someone in a class or bubble tests positive, the school will report the incident to public health and take their advice: it may be necessary to close bubbles as we did in the autumn term. We ask that all members of the school community adhere to the current guidelines to keep everyone safe.

Make foil sculptures and pictures, decorate with felt tips or leave plain. There’s an artist in everyone Playing card maths Studies show that playing card games develop children’s cognitive abilities and teach new strategies for using mathematical information. Playing card games, improves memory, develops quick thinking, encourages number talk and number fluency.
