Spring Break: March 12-17, 2018 Congratulations Dr. Anne Jung Dean of the College, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs President Tom Gamble announced to the Maria Community that Dr. Anne Jung has been appointed Dean of the College and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. She has been serving as Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Jung's contributions to Maria have been tremendous in her role as Chair of Liberal Arts and Management and Co-Chair of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Steering Committee. President Gamble stated, "Anne needs no introduction to the Maria community where she is well known as a fair, balanced and highly competent administrator, as well as a dedicated and capable member of the faculty." Lenten Reflection This week, Sr. Eileen O'Connor shares a reflection on Jesus' last words "I'm thirsty." She challenges us with the statement, 'Nearly 1 billion of our brothers and sisters may say “I’m thirsty,” but they do not enjoy a drink of water. They have no access to clean drinking water. They suffer from many water-related diseases. In fact, every day, tens of thousands of children die of preventable water-related diseases. Water is life, as our Native American friends remind us.' Upcoming TEAS Exam Dates Tuesday, March 13 | 10am-2pm Maria College requires all students with an intent for the Practical Nursing Certificate (PNC) or Associate’s Degree in Nursing complete the “TEAS”—Test of Essential Academic Skills—at a required level in order to be admitted into the program. Career Success: Professional Attire Fashion Show Event Thursday, March 22 | 2pm-6pm Marian Hall, Fitzgerald Court Career Services and Mission Accomplished (Carmen Duncan '05 is the founder and Chief Coach) will be displaying proper interview and professional dress attire at the upcoming 'Dress for the Interview' presentation. Faculty Forum Monday, March 26 |3pm Marian Hall, Room 105 Jessica Napoli will be demonstrating how to use the AED's that are located in campus buildings. This event is open to all members of the Maria Community.
Albany Tulip Queen & Court Deadline: April 2, 2018 The Tulip Queen and Court are Albany's vibrant ambassadors attending community functions, promoting education and coordinating programs for the mayor's literacy campaign throughout their year of reign. Women's Leadership Summit Saturday, April 7 | 8am-4pm Marriott Renaissance Hotel, Albany Victoria Battell RSM, Maria Vice President of Mission, Planning, Student Affairs | Dean of Students will be on the speaker's panel facilitated by Elaine Houston, award winning journalist and anchor at News Channel 13. Space is limited. 8-Hour Dance Marathon Saturday, April 21 | 3pm-6pm Lucky Strike Social, Crossgates Mall Join Mission Accomplished to support and inspire young professionals to glow from within while having a great time. The funds raised from this event will support programming that ill help millennials overcome obstacles as they enter the workforce. Click here for more information. Maria Makes a Mark in the Community Monday, April 30 | 10am-6pm Marian Hall, Fitzgerald Court The AAS Nursing program will be kicking off National Nurses Week by hosting an event on April 30th, "Nursing in your Neighborhood: Making a Mark in the Community". Graduating nursing students will share their community service learning projects. Light
refreshments will be served. NEWS @ MARIA Celebrating 60 Years of Mercy Education On April 25, 1958, on behalf of the New York State Education Department, the Board of Regents granted a charter to found Maria College. This year is a celebratory milestone as we look back on how Maria has evolved over 60-years--providing opportunity education in high demand careers to all who can benefit. Hospitality will be offered on April 25--cake and tea-- and more activities and events planned through April 25, 2019. Maria Market Food Pantry Main Building, Basement Maria Market, the College's food pantry, is available to members of the campus community who are experiencing food insecurities. No appointment is necessary and the use of the service is anonymous and confidential. The food pantry is open every Monday and Wednesday from 11:30am - 1:00pm. Access to the food pantry is also available through the Frank E. O'Brien Jr. Student Support Center at any time, even weekends. For more information, please contact Anne Devlin or Andrew Ledoux. Free Cancer Screening Series for Women St. Peter's Health Partners and St. Mary's Hospital are hosting a cancer screening series. No cost for mammograms and other screening tests are available for eligible, uninsured women age 40+. For more information and to make and appointment, please call (518) 525-8680.
