Kidscollege News August 2018 Fiver for a Farmer Our Fiver for a Farmer week was a huge success and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful families who donated. Together our efforts raised $500 which has been forwarded to those who need it most. Also, a huge thanks to those families who donated fresh produce, shared their knowledge of farming and helped in any way, making the week such a roaring success. A special mention to Miss Jen’s parents for taking time out of their busy schedule to teach children about life on a busy cane farm. Students were also lucky enough to touch, smell, taste and plant some sugarcane. Thanks Mal and Jane. With visits from Old McDonald’s Farm, an excursion to the Sarina Sugar Shed, farm dress-ups all week, taste testing of local and homegrown produce and lots of fun and laughter, it certainly was a very yet informative week raising funds and awareness for a very important cause. BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS We love any excuse to dress up. Thursday August 23rd saw staff and students dress as their favourite book character as part of Book Week celebrations. With everything from princesses and superheros to cowgirls, animals, firemen, witches and much more, it was a colourful and fun day. Thanks to everyone for putting in such a great effort. The week also saw some of our favourite books come to life with Jun Ed students working together to make their very own “Wombat Stew’ and Miss Jen (the witch) and friends re-creating the story of “Room on the Broom.” What a terrific way to foster a life-long love of reading.

Early Childhood Educators Day We are all feeling the love after the wonderful comments and gifts we received on Wednesday 5th September for Early Childhood Educators Day. We all love what we do and are so happy to play a part in shaping the person your child will be in the future. Thanks to everyone for your kind words, we really appreciate it, so once again thanks from the bottom of our hearts. THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK YOU We love when our families join us for our learning and activities or share their special skills or talents with us. This month we were lucky enough to have Mr Neil (Oliver’s Grandfather) share his musical ability with us. The children loved dancing and singing along to the guitar and accordion. Thanks again for letting us enjoy your beautiful music. A special thanks also to the team from Sarina Dental Care for their recent visit, reminding us how to care for our teeth. Children were shown the correct method of brushing to ensure teeth are kept sparkling clean. Children were also given a special pack to take home to remember the message of dental hygiene.
Important Reminders: Toys – Please do not allow children to bring toys from home into the centre. We do not wish for your child’s precious items to become lost or broken so please keep them in the safety of your home or car. Spare Clothes – Please ensure all children attend every day with at least one set of spare clothes in their bag. Please increase this to several pairs if your child is currently undergoing toilet training. Staff Professional Development Friday 7th September 2018 will see Miss Michelle take part in further Abecedarian training allowing her to gain new skills that she will then pass on to the rest of our educators. The Abecedarian approach is an evidence-based program that integrates learning and development into a fun and effective early childhood curriculum, placing the importance of language and literacy development at the forefront. News From Every Room… KCS Kindergarten – Have you completed your child’s enrolment for prep next year? All local schools are taking enrolments now. Please contact the school of your choice as soon as possible to discuss enrolment. In order to allow us to share information about your child with your chosen school please also ensure you have completed the transition statement consent form. See Dee or Keely for further info. With prep just around the corner our work is focusing on preparing us for this big step. Early numeracy and literacy activities are embedded in every aspect of our day. We are also working hard to write the letters of our name and recognise the letters of the alphabet. Senior Ed- The senior ed class have been participating in cooking experiences as a way to extend their understanding of different cultures. San Chow Bow, Mexican burritos and pizzas are just some of the multi-cultural foods students have been preparing and tasting. Students can then role play their own cooking experiences in the multi-cultural café. Cutting skills have also been a big focus in recent weeks with students using scissors to cut around shapes. Cutting improves hand-eye coordination and boosts fine motor skills. Junior Ed – More exciting changes taking place in the Junior Ed class with Miss Emma and Miss Sarah giving students more opportunity for dramatic play with a jungle area taking shape and a vehicle discovery area. Areas such as this encourage children to work together as a team, communicate, be creative and imaginative and of course have fun! Lots of arts and crafts activities also taking place in the junior ed class to boost our creativity. Toddlers – Our Toddlers love singing and dancing. Singing popular songs and rhymes is important to ensure language development in young children. Dancing allows for creative expression and an understanding of how our bodies work. Our kitchen dramatic play area (home corner) has been very popular lately with students role playing and working together. As always our Toddlers also love getting messy with sensory challenges such as playdough, finger paint, sand play and much more.
