Friday 15th January 2021 Dear Parents, If you were able to join us for assembly this afternoon, you will have seen some of the wonderful work in which the children have engaged this week. They are really making the most of their online opportunities and many have made superb animations, created videos and taken up stimulating challenges set by their teachers. Despite being isolated from each other physically, there has been some lovely collaboration in break out rooms and this week saw some pretty exciting live science practicals during which Mrs Barnes enlisted the help of parents at home. I think the aftermath of these experiments might have taken a bit of time to clear up! As ever, we are working constantly to keep our educational provision of the highest quality as well as retain a strong sense of community whilst we are separated. The 4 Peaks’ Challenge is bringing many of us together as we strive to ascend the peaks, albeit virtually, from our own homes. Thank you to everyone who has already donated to our nominated charity, Julia’s House; it is exciting seeing the totals rise as well as hearing all about the climbing feats of the children. We have done some virtual travelling this week, too, as the Early Years children boarded Greenwood Airways and jetted off to Paris to soak up the many sights on offer! The children have spoken in French, learned about important French monuments and culture as well as enjoyed plentiful French cuisine! Year 4 have taken their learning further afield and are studying Kenya. They are immersing themselves in all things African and enjoying learning about aspects of a culture very different from their own. Year 5 have really travelled and have spent much of this week learning about the solar system and space. Their 3D solar system projects have been hugely enjoyable to see unfold. We spent a little time today focusing on the wonder that is the Coronavirus vaccine, highlighting the incredibly intense and fast-paced work of scientists, pharmaceutical companies and medics to roll out this vaccination to the most vulnerable. I think it is important that the children hear the extraordinarily good news and bright future that this vaccine will bring for them. Being in lockdown is hard work for our youngsters and, we know, continues to have a profound effect on their Yarrells School & Nursery Page 1 of 8 Friday 15th January 2021
wellbeing. To know that the road ahead will see respite from the current restrictions is something I hope will keep their spirits up. As ever, on the difficult days for you or your children, it is important you seek our help and support should you need it. We are always available for a 1:1 chat over Zoom or a catch up on Teams and want to ensure that the embrace of our school community remains unbroken, to help us continue to weather this storm. I wish you all a peaceful weekend ahead and look forward to seeing your children next week All the very best, Ms Sally Weber, Head Yarrells The Four Peak Challenge NUTKINS Ava M Hattie S SQUIRRELS: Dylan O Huxley D RECEPTION: William H Bea R YEAR 1: Sophia P Monty B YEAR 2: Sophie McP Grace H YEAR 3: Zachary L-W Noah F YEAR 3: Grace S YEAR 4: Max P Ozzy A YEAR 5: Josh B Jacob B YEAR 6: Emilio P Faith K YEAR 7: Scarlet G YEAR 8: Rocco T https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/yarrells-school-and-nursery Awarded to Gilbert A from Year 4 For making cookies and giving them to his neighbours. He made half as choc chips and the other half as plain. They are in different shapes, hearts, moons, houses and stars and some big circle ones. Well done, Gilbert. Early Years & Pre-Prep Ooh la la! This week we boarded Greenwood airways and flew to France for a quick trip around the country. We made our own passports and took our seats before enjoying a flight simulator. We learnt about famous landmarks, the cuisine and the flag. Some of us even made our own! On Wednesday, our special French day, we enjoyed the French snack our mummies and daddies had supplied us with, it was very yummy! Croissants was definitely a favourite. The children looked fabulous in their French attire. We filled the whole week with activities to help us with our learning about France too. There was lots of cutting and sticking, building and colour sorting. The Nutkins had fun painting with blue, white and red and doing some French themed cutting and sticking! With Mrs May, we enjoyed a French themed dance lesson that included dancing to The Can Can! Next week, we won't be travelling too far when we pop into London to visit The Queen! Reception News Mrs C Tucker & Mrs T Wilson In Reception this week we have been learning all about France. We have painted in the style of French artists, built monuments out of different construction, tasted different French foods and hosted our own Tour de France!
