Pathways to Lanier Magnet Zoned • Do not live in Lanier attendance zone • Live in Lanier attendance zone • Must apply using Office of School • DO NOT have to apply; automatically Choice application guaranteed a seat • Must be identified as GT by HISD • DO NOT have to be identified as GT • Must be selected from lottery • Zoned students already identified as GT will automatically be placed in our Vanguard (GT) core courses
Zoned Students • If you currently reside in our attendance zone and submit a magnet application for the 22-23 school year, your application will automatically be placed in our zoned lottery, not our magnet lottery, and you will be required to reside in our attendance zone for the duration of the time your student attends Lanier. • If you would like your application to be placed in our magnet lottery, meaning if your application is selected through the magnet lottery you can move outside of our attendance zone, within HISD zones, and remain at Lanier, you will need to email the Vanguard Magnet coordinator, Mrs. Jennifer Garza Pender, at jgarza8@houstonisd.org, and request your student’s application be placed in our magnet lottery, not our zoned lottery. • Zoned students will automatically roll over into our HISD Connect/Power School system, so there is no need to apply online or fill out any registration paperwork prior to the start of school.

Lanier Clusters • Each grade has three clusters: L, M and S • Students are randomly placed in one cluster each year • Clusters are an additional layer of support for students • Each cluster is comprised of the four core teachers: math, language and literature, science, and individuals and societies. This allows for common planning time to discuss: • Interdisciplinary units • Summative assignments • How much homework is being sent home in each area • Students in need of additional assistance or challenge • Clusters can accommodate parent conferences with all core teachers

MISSION PUPS is a student-centered, intimate community dedicated to meeting the social and emotional needs of students while simultaneously giving them voice to power and preparation to be global citizens. Through intentional, year-long leadership training, PUPS Leaders will establish each community as a safe space centered on the IB Learner Profile. Through a gradual release approach, students will engage in relevant discourse exercising critical thinking, problem solving, empathy, adaptability, and growth mindset with the goal of being advocates of change both within and outside of the LMS community. Student Schedule Students have 4 classes per day, 90 minutes each. Students attend PUPS/SLAB daily, for the first 35 minutes of each day.
