Help the Blackstone School build its library
As part of a robust, 12-year partnership with the Blackstone Elementary School in the South End, St. Stephen's Youth Programs has coordinated the library at this Boston Public School. During this MLK Season of Action, the Blackstone Library team is working with teachers to enhance the mini-libraries in 14 older grade classrooms. St. Stephen's Youth Programs will be adding 15- 20 new books about civil rights movements and heroes who worked to achieve racial justice in each classroom. If you would like to support this book drive, you can make a donation through the SSYP website: Choose the Get Involved tab, then click on 2021 MLK Season of Action or follow the link below to order books directly! Order books on wishlist through Porter Square Books > FUEL: Groceries for families in need Thank you for your generosity! The limits on some food purchases make it difficult for us to gather the quantities of food needed. Currently, we are filling 185 bags with food each week, twice what we were doing in the fall. Thanks to the continued support of so many of you, we have not had to refuse any requests for food. Here specifically is what you could donate. Even one or two helps,
but sizes are important. While larger sizes may seem more generous and economical, the bags quickly become too heavy for the recipients and for the drivers who lift as many as 40 bags. Canned chicken (12.5oz) or tuna (5oz each) Bag or can of beans Peanut butter (18oz) Individual serving cups of fruit or applesauce 1 lb. pasta (any type) 1 lb. rice Box macaroni and cheese Cereal (10-12 oz) Crackers (10-12 oz), e. g. Wheat Thins/Triscuits Marinara sauce (24 oz), preferably in plastic jar Hearty soup Click here to sign up to sort, pack or deliver bags. St. Stephen’s families would also appreciate $50 VISA gift cards. These cards may be purchased online or in person at stores throughout the area. These we ask to be sent to the Redeemer Parish Office or dropped off in the mail slot at Redeemer. Velura Perry Children and Teens Shrove Tuesday Dance Party Tonight!
Shrove Tuesday Dance Party Tonight! Since children, teens and families can't gather for a Pancake Dinner or Pancake Games, Starr Peteet and Louisa Sylvia of the Sunday School Committee have come up with the great idea of an online zoom dance party! This Sunday Schooler above already has her dancing shoes picked out--why not join her and do some partying on the last night before Lent sets in? Join us from 6:30pm on Tuesday the 16th. The link was in your Saturday email, or just send Emily a note to get it. Rev. Emily and Youth Minister Barrie Rose invite you to join them for these drop-in meetings--a Christian space to share and process what you and your family are learning about racism and anti-racism. You can bring questions, concerns, experiences, or frustrations to this space, and we will think about them together as Christians. The link will be in the Saturday emails. If you're interested in learning more, including the guidelines for the evening, just email Rev. Emily. Also, please refer to the Redeemer calendar for classes and other schedules. Many blessings to all! Opportunities for Parish Involvement
Join us every Thursday evening at 7:30pm for our weekly meeting on Becoming Beloved Community This week we will begin a new book, “How to Fight Racism” by Jemar Tisby which offers “an array of actionable items” and “roots the ultimate solution to racism in the Christian faith as we embrace the implications of what Jesus taught his followers.” Email Rev. Emily for the Zoom link to join our discussions. Newcomers and new perspectives are always welcome! Debby, James, Emily & Mike Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. — Galatians 6:9 Joint Drop-in Prayer Tuesdays and Thursdays On Zoom Please join us as we pray for our own needs and those of others.
