EVENTS 2020 Livery Dinner at Stationers’ Hall Industry Networking for Lightmongers and their Guests Thursday 19 March 19:00 to 22:30 Being a Livery Company without its own Hall, we have the advantage of regularly going to some of the many remarkable Livery Halls in the City. This event is at the wonderful Stationers’ Hall, which was completed in 1673 after the Great Fire of London. This Black Tie Dinner includes our Military Awards and is in effect our industry dinner, for members to bring along their business guests. A drinks reception is followed by an excellent dinner and if you can manage it, stirrup (or parting) cup, which was usually port or sherry but now extends to wine.
United Guilds Service (City Event – members, partners and guests) Friday 27 March 11:00 to 14:00 – St Paul’s Cathedral This annual event held in St Paul’s Cathedral since 1943, sees thousands of Livery Company members coming together to fill the Cathedral. Started out of a desire of the Companies to unite and help solve the problems facing the blitz-damaged City, today it is a great occasion including ceremony and beautiful music in celebration of Livery Companies. Free to both members and guests. There is an opportunity of having lunch at Tallow Chandlers Hall afterwards. Inter-livery Charity Clay Shoot (City Event – members and guests) 13 May 08:00 to 16:00 – Holland & Holland City Livery Companies go head to head at this lovely shooting ground. It is open to both experienced and novice shooters. The number of places depends on the allocation from the organisers and will be organised into teams of 4. It includes a bacon or sausage roll breakfast and a very good lunch. Lightmongers Charity Golf Day (Members and guests) Thursday 21 May 11:00 to 21:30 – Royal Automobile Club Our major charity fund raising event is a great social day at this prestigious members club golf course making a valuable contribution to our charities. Members usually bring a team of four. Starting off with a light buffet lunch, we then have an afternoon Stableford golf match. The prize awarding dinner follows in the lovely Cedar Restaurant. Non- golfers, both members and guests are very much welcomed to the dinner. As this is very much a charity event, raffle prizes and sponsorships are encouraged and welcomed.
LIA Challenge Cup Sailing Regatta (Members and guests – Limited numbers) Thursday 28 May – All Day & Evening – Southampton The emphasis is on fun and you are invited to bring colleagues and clients for a great opportunity to network in an exciting and unique environment! On Southampton waters you and your guests will be aboard fully equipped Beneteau First 40 sailing yachts. No sailing experience is required as two highly qualified professional crew will be supplied for each yacht. After a breakfast briefing with your professional skippers the boats will leave the marina for a morning of sailing and racing will commence after lunch. Returning to the marina late afternoon there will be time to relax and unwind at the evening prize giving and BBQ. Bookings close when 16 people, 2 boats, have confirmed. Masters Weekend (Liverymen and partners – Limited numbers) Friday 29 to Sunday 31 May - Edinburgh A really enjoyable weekend in Edinburgh with tours and meals arranged. First come first served
William Wright Lecture “Lighting and Health” – by Peter Boyce (Members, partners and guests) Thursday 11 June – 18:00 to 21:00 - UCL Lecture Theatre Peter Boyce has always specialised in the interaction of light and lighting with humans, being the author of the definitive work on the subject “Human Factors in Lighting”, which includes the outlining of the effects on basic body functions such as circadian rhythms. In this lecture, which will be a highly informative, stimulating and entertaining presentation, he will concentrate on the recent developments in the understanding of the role of lighting in human health. This is a hugely important and relevant subject to our industry and by understanding the effects of the lighting we design or install, we can make the environment for the people who use it even better for their health. A Pumble Around the City (Members, partners and guests) June – date to be confirmed Have you ever been on a Pumble? A Pumble is a’ Pub Ramble’ and we will have a special pub tour within the City. The City is full of historic watering holes and during the ‘ramble’ we will not only learn a lot about the history, but no doubt get time for a sip or two. Look out for the announcement, it will be first come, first served. Election of Sheriffs (City Event – Liverymen only) Wednesday 24 June 11:45 - Guildhall Each Midsummer Day (or the closest weekday) at the Guildhall the Livery assemble in Common Hall to elect two Sheriffs. All Liverymen, but not Freemen nor partners or guests, are eligible to attend Common Hall. This is always a popular event with Liverymen across the City and arriving early will give you a better chance of securing a good seat. Though the proceedings do not begin until 11.45am, 11am is certainly not too early to arrive. There is no dress code but a suit and Lightmongers tie would be normal. There is also an opportunity of having lunch at Tallow Chandlers Hall after the election.
Mansion House Summer Banquet (Members, partners and guests) Friday 3 July 18:45 to 22:30 This is The Event of the Year in one of the most impressive venues in the City of London. The Mansion House, dating back to the mid 1700s is the official residence of the Lord Mayor of the City of London and where a number of the City’s official functions are held. Like those, our Summer Banquet is a resplendent White Tie Dinner. An evening for all members to bring partners and friends to enjoy a formal dinner in unique surroundings, a pre-dinner Champagne reception, and post-dinner drinks. If you have not been to this event, then you really must! Four Liveries Lecture (Members, partners and guests) Monday 21 September – Glazier’s Hall An annual event of an evening that includes an interesting lecture put on by one of the sponsoring Four Livery Companies in rotation, followed by a supper. Of the four livery companies one is the Lightmongers, the others being the Clockmakers, Scientific Instrument Makers and Spectacle Makers. This year it is the turn of the Clockmakers and will be held at Glazier’s Hall. Whichever Livery Company organises the talk, it is always a fascinating subject from someone expert in their field.

Trinity House (Members, partners and guests) Saturday 29 September 13:45 We get access to and a tour of this Grade 1 listed building overlooking the Tower of `London and Tower Bridge. Originally built in 1794-96 by Samuel Wyatt, Surveyor to the Corporation, it was gutted in 1940 when a German incendiary bomb lodged in the roof of the stairwell, leaving nothing of the original building, save the Trinity Square façade. It was refurbished and redecorated in March 1990. Our tour will include tea/coffee biscuits and bookings close when 25 people have confirmed.
Common Hall & Installation Dinner (Members only) Friday 6 November – Tallow Chandlers Hall Common Hall 18:00 Dinner 18:30 – 22:30 Held in the Livery Hall where the Lightmongers Court meets, Tallow Chandlers Hall dates back to 1672, the original building having been destroyed by the Great Fire in 1666. The Hall itself where we have dinner can seat up to 100 so it is a perfect size for our members only Black Tie dinner. As it is members only, seating is random by picking out a seat number. The evening commences with a drinks reception and then Common Hall opens for the report of the Master on their year. The election of the Officers for the year follows with the Installation of the new Master Lightmonger and Officers. Only Liverymen are entitled to vote, although all members are very much welcomed. The formalities of the Livery over we enjoy dinner and the evening ends with a stirrup cup. Company Carol Service (Members, partners and guests) Wednesday 9 December 18:30 to 20:00 St Botolph’s Without Aldgate A great opportunity for all members of the company to bring families and friends to start their Christmas celebrations.
