PRELUDE WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP We sing as an offering of praise. We sit together because we cannot be Christian alone. We confess, because our world needs honesty. We give, because giving bends our hearts toward gratitude. We pray, because hope needs a voice. We worship, because you alone, God of creation, are worthy. Let us sing, let us pray, let us worship God. Amen. * GATHERING HYMN Great Is Thy Faithfulness ELW 733 * CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Silence is kept for reflection. Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. * PRAYER OF THE DAY P: Let us pray. C: O God, you have prepared for those who love you joys beyond understanding. Pour into our hearts such love for you that, loving you above all things, we may obtain your promises, which exceed all we can desire; through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. ANTHEM “Deep River” Sandy Hudak, saxophone FIRST READING Psalm 98 1 O sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things. His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory. 2 The LORD has made known his victory; he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations. 3 He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. 4 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. 5 Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody. 6 With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD. 7 Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who live in it. 8 Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy 9 at the presence of the LORD, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity. Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God! * GOSPEL John 15:9-17 The holy Gospel according to John. Glory to you, O Lord. 9 As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. 10If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. 11I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. 12This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. 16You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. 17I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another. P: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON Bishop Amy Odgren HYMN OF THE DAY Love Divine, All Loves Excelling ELW 631 * APOSTLES’ CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. * PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION OFFERING OF GIFTS * OFFERTORY PRAYER * THE LORD'S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. * BENEDICTION * SENDING HYMN Blest Be the Tie That Binds ELW 656 * DISMISSAL P: Go in peace. CONGREGATIONAL UPDATE Dear Crosslake Lutheran Community, We want to make sure you are aware of the most current information. This is from an Aug. 13 Brainerd Dispatch article: “Crow Wing County is now among the 51 Minnesota counties with high rates of community transmission, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The designation means more than 10 cases per 10,000 people were recorded in the past seven days, and the number of Minnesota counties meeting this threshold increased from 18 a week earlier. Crow Wing County is the only one of seven in the region — also including Aitkin, Cass, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Todd and Wadena — meeting the high transmission definition. All others are experiencing substantial spread, the CDC reports. [Since this article was written Morrison and Todd counties are now in the high transmission categories.] Just seven counties in the state meet the moderate transmission definition, and zero Minnesota counties remain in the low transmission category. These thresholds are part of the CDC’s guidance on mask wearing. Masks are recommended for vaccinated individuals in indoor public spaces in areas with substantial or high rates of transmission.” Crosslake Lutheran will continue following CDC guidelines with recommending (not requiring) masks inside our church facility. Thanks for your participation in the health and welfare of our whole community especially for those who cannot be vaccinated as we face this new Delta variant.
