Dear Partners in Mission, Many people have chosen to try a form of fasting during the season of Lent by “giving something up.” The idea behind giving things up for Lent is to help us place a deeper focus on Christ who fasted for 40 days in the wilderness before beginning his ministry. As we experience hunger pains or miss a favorite TV show, we are reminded that God alone can satisfy our deepest needs. As we enter into the Season of Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday, March 6 th, I encourage you to try out some of these “Out of the Box things to give up for LENT.” 1 – Do not buy anything that you do not NEED. If you can live without it, you don’t March need it. Put the money that you would have spent into a jar. You will be surprised at how quickly you build up your savings. Consider using the money to pay off any debts you owe, or donate it. 3/1 Laura Keune, Vonnie Aug, Samuel Olstad 3/2 Tami Christianson 2- 40 things for 40 days. Every day, you need to go around your house and collect 40 3/3 Irene Aarre things to donate or throw away. If that’s too much, start with 4 things.
