Club run Sunday 15th October 2017 Three cars, 9 people, met at the south end of Timaru ready to leave at 8-30am. Gavin & Marilyn Ladbrook, Alison & Neville Jarvis and Allison Hedges & Dave Eaton along with Harley and Sophie. I joined in with Alison & Neville, thank you so much to them. We travelled down to Trevor & Yvonne Jopson’s home where we met up with, Bob & Maryanne Wood, Ivan & Pauline Jeffs and Liz & Brian Schou. The guys left in the ‘Z’ cars and the women went in the Jeff’s 7 seater and Maryanne’s BMW. The women travelled up to Papakaio to visit the home and gardens of Ian & Gloria Hurst. What a fabulous looking home and fantastic gardens. The gardens have been developed from paddocks into an amazing area. There is a stream running through and a lake with jetty and row boat. The gardens are full of trees and shrubs of all kinds and little ‘finds’ around. We spotted a rocking horse under a tree, a couple of large gargoyles near the lake and some interesting little pieces in the vegetable garden area. After looking around here we then went along to Sherry (Maryanne’s sister) and Hugh McDonald’s beautiful garden. We were shown around, firstly looking at the pheasants, turkeys etc, then around looking at the very well cared for gardens. It was great to hear how they have developed their garden over the years. We learned of their terrifying experience of loosing their home, and everything in it, to an early morning fire about 42 years ago. They have a beautiful home and gardens and it was much appreciated to be allowed to visit, thank you so much. Meanwhile the men travelled to Garry Ford’s shed in Herbert. Garry has a collection of cars, motorbikes etc. He has flags from all over America, where ever he has visited. He has a lot of memorabilia and the men had a wonderful time looking around and checking it out. We then all met back at Ivan and Pauline’s home for a BBQ lunch. 10 7
Merv & Cobi Johns arrived down from Ashburton, it was great to see them there joining in too. The Oamaru members had all made salads etc and everyone bought meat to be cooked on the BBQ. What an enjoyable lunch. There were many comments on all the different salads, so we will be sharing the recipes in this magazine. Thank you very much to you all for providing this lunch and arranging our visits. Thanks to Ivan and Pauline for allowing us to have lunch at your home. Everyone enjoyed sitting around and chatting after lunch. Then the cars all got checked out and compared etc. A great day was had by all. Again thanks for everything. Glenis Hull 8 9
