‘Great and marvellous are your deeds, Call To Lord God Almighty. Worship Just and true are your ways, King of the nations. Revelation 15:3b-4 4 Who will not fear you, Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.’ I see the King of glory Hosanna Coming on the clouds with fire The whole earth shakes The whole earth shakes I see his love and mercy Washing over all our sin The people sing The people sing Hosanna Hosanna Hosanna in the Highest Hosanna Hosanna Hosanna in the highest I see a generation Rising up to take their place With selfless faith With selfless faith I see a near revival Stirring as we pray and seek We’re on our knees We’re on our knees Heal my heart and make it clean Open up my eyes to the things unseen Show me how to love like you Have loved me Break my heart for what breaks yours Brooke Ligertwood Everything I am for your Kingdom’s cause © 2006 Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia CCLI No 227856 As I walk from earth into eternity 2
3 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, CALL TO Lord, who could stand? CONFESSION 4 But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. Psalm 130:3-4 Confession Most merciful God, we humbly admit that we need your help. We confess that we have wandered from your way: we have done wrong, and we have failed to do what is right. You alone can save us. Have mercy on us: wipe out our sins and teach us to forgive others. Bring forth in us the fruit of the Spirit that we may live as disciples of Christ. This we ask in the name of Jesus our Saviour. Amen. 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not Assurance in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us Of our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness Forgiveness 1 John 1:8-9 3
There is no other name No Other In heaven can be found Name Through whom we are redeemed Through whom your grace abounds No other name can save But Jesus Christ our Lord My joy in sorrow’s tears My strength to cast out fears No other name But Jesus Jesus My hope in darkest night My broken soul’s delight No other name But Jesus Jesus There is no victory But Jesus crucified No other cure for sin But that our Saviour died No other hope we have But that he rose again He rose again No other throne endures No other song remains But worthy is the Lamb Who was for sinners slain CCLI Song # 5737284 When every knee shall bow Trevor Hodge And tongue confess you are Lord © 2010 Hodge, Trevor Used by permission. 1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, Bible seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above Isaiah 6:1-7 him were seraphim, each with six wings: with two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.’ 4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. 5 ‘Woe to me!’ I cried. ‘I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.’ 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, ‘See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.’ Hebrews 12:18-29 18 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19 to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: ‘If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.’ 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, ‘I am trembling with fear.’ 22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. 25 See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, ‘Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.’ 27 The words ‘once more’ indicate the removing of what can be shaken – that is, created things – so that what cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our ‘God is a consuming fire.’ This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God 5
Sermon Discipleship I’m bored with God Being bored with God is very deflating to discipleship The (non) problem of God’s invisibility Romans 1:20, 1 Timothy 6:15 Little boring gods: • God my invisible friend • The one-sided, toothless God • The vague and diffuse God Regaining a non-boring God (Hebrews 12): • The consuming fire (Isaiah 6) • The great high priest 6
