February 14, 2021 Volume 82, Number 7 His Striking Confidence - Luke 4:16-30 Successful leaders have always had confidence in their ability to succeed. Confidence is contagious. A leader is one who knows where he or she is going and has the ability to persuade. It has been said a good leader inspires people with confidence in himself, but a great leader inspires people with confidence in themselves. I think we could add a Godly leader inspires confidence in God. Let's look at the confidence of Jesus Christ and strive to emulate his example. In our example today found in Luke chapter four, we will see the most difficult people to talk to about Christ are the people with whom you grew up. Is it because they are aware of your past sins? Maybe it is because they look at you and see where you were as a young adult. The writer Matthew says, “He did not do many miracles there, because of their unbelief.” Jesus put down the scroll and confronted the most sensitive issues. We need as God’s people to have that confidence today. We need the confidence to preach God's word even if occasionally are rebuffed. The truth is so powerful. When we follow the lead of Jesus Christ, confidence motivates us to share His salvation. To proclaim His deity, towards those who are skeptical, is hard. And to stand for His truth, which may produce anger, is equally difficult. Do we have the confidence to say with Paul, (Romans 1:16) "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes.”? - Steve The rebuilding phase of restoring the houses and lives of good brethren and others is continuing, 3 months since Typhoon Ulysses swept across the northern Philippines. A total of $71,075 has been given so far by a multitude of churches and individuals from New Zealand, Scotland and the U.S. Our hearts continue to overflow with joy. We are now in our final phase of restoring lives with rebuilding houses and church buildings, then helping some in livelihood efforts. The preachers and leaders who are overseeing these efforts are also teaching the gospel along the way. They have baptized well over 200 souls into Christ and are grounding them in the faith with follow-up studies. Those distributing the relief are among God's finest. Thank you all again for your generosity. The Filipino Christians asked me to thank all of you for your generosity, borne from a heart of compassion. May God bless you all - Dale & Karen Byrum You are asked to place your contribution in the BLACK BOX located at the Welcome Center. This month’s collection will be going to the family of Arianna Franklin. She has been on our prayer list since December. She has been at Vanderbilt's Children Hospital and will be heading to a re- hab facility soon. This month's collection will go to assisting this family with medical and travel expenses. Please continue to pray for her and her family as she continues to make improvements. If you would like to recommend anyone for this monthly collection - please bring it to our attention!
