An excerpt from their recent letter: “I am writing to thank the parishioners of Christ Church St Lucia for their frequent and generous donations of frozen meals to the Pantry. The home cooked meals are much appreciated by the clients, some of whom are hungry and can enjoy a heated meal before leaving the Pantry. Thank you for continuing with this most valuable outreach through your ‘Care to Cook’ initiative. Trinity Centre Pantry continues to serve the Brisbane community through its Trinity Pantry and Emergency Relief (Financial assistance) programs and the generosity shown by so many groups and individuals has been truly inspiring over the years; without it, we certainly could not have continued to provide support for those in need.” Every blessing on your congregation Rev. SPIRITUALITY AND EDUCATION QUIET MORNINGS with PATRICK OLIVER Old Friary - Brookfield Centre 139 Brookfield Rd, Kenmore Ph: 3378 9189; What did Jesus mean when he said …. Three quiet mornings at the Old Friary will explore some of the language and sayings Jesus used which can be difficult to interpret, such as the phrase “The Kingdom of God”. Jesus said puzzling things and, at times, referred to the end of the world. During this Lenten period, exploring these sayings can help us to prepare for the momentous events of Easter. Saturday March 7th - 9:30 - 12:45 Saturday March 21st - 9:30 - 12:45 Saturday April 4th - 9:30 - 12:45 Dr Patrick Oliver has been a renowned Spiritual Director in Brisbane for many years. His Doctorate centred on the mystical approach to reading the scripture. Patrick has spent the past 35 years accompanying people on their spiritual journeys, especially how they have related to God over the years, and how this has grown and mat=red. More information about Patrick can be found on his webpage at www.patrickoliver.net.au To register please email Marianne at office@kenbrookang.org.au or just come along. PARISH NEWS Dear all at CCSL, I send my greetings from Toowoomba, I hope you all had a beautiful Christmas! I've now begun to settle into life in Toowoomba and am at present at St Bart's Anglican Church where I am also a member of a small Bible study group and the congregation. I'm still to find a choir here in Toowoomba as I have taken a summer semester of university these holidays and been run off my feet with course work and assignment submission. Christ Church 9 Ninth Ave The good news is that today (24th Jan) is now my first St Lucia, day of holidays before the commencement of Semester 1. QLD - 4067 I am finishing my History degree online through UNE and hope to commence a teaching Masters at QUT or USQ Lord Willing at the commencement of 2021. I am aiming to squeeze my History honours thesis at UQ in somehow. I hope you're all well and I hope to see you all soon sometime this year as I miss you all (and the beautiful, beautiful music) at CCSL very much indeed. I send my prayers that the garage sale goes wonderfully well and I can't wait to see you all at some point through this year, Evie (Evelyn Scott: Alto 2: The Lucian Singers 2017-2019) Parish Council – Annual General Meeting | 23rd February | 10.30am The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Parishioners is of great spiritual and material importance to the Parish. Friday March 6th: World Day of Prayer | St Thomas Aquinas St Lucia | 10:30am – ALL WELCOME Rise, take up your mat and walk. Every year, the World Day of Prayer is a powerful combination of prayer and giving that mobilises a Bible Society project. This year, you will impact the work in Zimbabwe, providing practical and spiritual support to mothers as they care for children living with a disability. Your support is vital as together we aim to help 10,000 people live a full and flourishing life. Mothers and their children will be empowered with greater independence, and find strength and comfort from God’s word. The World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement led by Christian women who welcome you to join in prayer and action for peace and justice. It is run under the motto “Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action,” and is celebrated annually in over 170 countries on the first Friday in March. The movement aims to bring together people of various races, cultures and traditions in a yearly common Day of Prayer, as well as in closer fellowship, understanding and action throughout the year. Both women and men are welcome to attend this year’s World Day of Prayer to be held at St Thomas Aquinas St Lucia (87 Central Ave, St Lucia) at 10.30am on Friday 6th March. 5
