Mission Statement...St. Margaret Mary Catholic School is a vital
part of the educational ministry of the parish. In partnership with parents, we are committed to
nurturing the uniqueness of each student as we provide a quality education program. We
strive to prepare our students to become moral, responsible, and self motivated members of
their church and community.

                            News from the Principal

  Dear Parents,

I know that you may have heard this message before, but it
definitely bears repeating since it could have a direct negative impact
on many SMM families. The General Assembly of the State of Ken-
tucky is in session and is preparing a budget for the next fiscal year.
According to Michael Monohan of the Catholic Conference of Ken-
tucky, the proposed budget includes no bus subsidies for students in
private schools. This represents a huge financial liability for St. Mar-
garet Mary families. For this year alone, we received over $159,000.
About half of our students currently ride the bus, and we now run 7
buses. If we don’t get the subsidy, the bus fee could double for our
families. With that, riding the bus could be cost prohibitive and then
cause us to double the cars in our carpool line. You can just imagine
all the issues this would cause for our community!

Even if your children do not ride the bus, I am asking each
family at St. Margaret Mary to take a few moments to contact your
state representative and state senator. Please go to the website,
www.mapit.louisvilleky.gov. You will be instructed to type in your ad-
dress, upon which all of your elected officials will be listed. Find the
officials who represent you in the Kentucky Legislature, and please
leave them a message that the bus subsidy is crucial to Catholic
school families. You also have the choice to use this link (http://
  school.stmm.org/sites/default/files/Bus%20Subsidy%20Letter.pdf)
to print the letter you prefer that method.

Catholic school parents throughout the state may be adversely
affected by this budget decision, and we intend to shower our Gen-
eral Assembly with a request to put bus subsidy funds back in the
state budget. The funds are there, but are not specified for any par-
ticular purpose. Please ask your legislator to vote for money to subsi-
dize the busing of private and Catholic school students. If you would
  like more information, visit www.kentuckyleague.blogspot.com.

May God Bless You and Your Family,
  Wendy Sims
