WHANAU WEEKLY Friday 16 March 2018 Well ... it is never a dull moment at Hunua School. We have had another extremely busy week. I think you will enjoy the students reflections :) Literacy (reading and writing) and maths are an extremely important component of our learning in Year 7&8. Our Must Do’s have these in mind. I find it very exciting to see individual students learning and pushing themselves in all Curriculum areas. They apply their literacy and maths skills to the other areas. In Room 3 it is expected that students will share their personal knowledge to help us with our investigations. It is expected that we keep open minds, respecting the ideas of others and developing a willingness to find out more. The New Zealand Curriculum is an exceptionally inspiring document. Here are the 8 learning areas that your child encounters from the time they start school until they leave to go to tertiary studies, vocational studies, or head straight into the workforce. As Year 7&8 students, it is important to learn social skills. Many students are developing a clear understanding of what the word perception means - how others view us. In class we reflect on the way younger students, teachers, and visitors to our school may see us. We self-reflect and peer- reflect. There are times where we have class, group and individual meetings with the teacher.
We have set the bar high and reflect as a class and individually. There is also an understanding that sometimes things can slip below the bar; because we are a team (students and teacher) we address these issues together. This week swimming has come to an end, we all look forward to the warmer weather of Term 4. Cricket coaching comes hot on the heels of Rippa Rugby as we aim to develop useful skills. WEDNESDAY Next Week (28 March): Maths Info Evening: 6-7 pm Starting in the Staffroom at 6 pm. Children will be in classrooms ready to share their knowledge with their parents.
