The Royal Family News 2019 Issue 7402 Albert Pike Rd., Royal, AR 71968 Phone: (501) 767-5462 Web Site: fbcroyal.com A Communication Resource of First Baptist Church of Royal Recently I got to thinking about an emerging profession, at least I think it is emerging. This is the profession of being a life coach. A life coach is a trained professional who helps guide goal-oriented people to meet or exceed their personal and professional goals. Life coaching is a process and requires the full commitment of the client. Coaches help clients identify blocks, challenges, and opportunities. Sounds like a wonderful profession. Every time I think of a “Life Coach” I can’t help but think of the best life coach and His name is Jesus. I want to be purposefully clear as I write this article. Jesus is not merely a life coach, He is God and this truth can’t be forgotten. All Jesus has said and done must be interpreted through the lenses of His divinity. I do not want to present Jesus in a light beneath His dignity. Yet Jesus set aside His glory for a while to become like us and walk among us. Revealing to us exactly what God is like, teaching us God’s ways, and ultimately dying for our sin upon the cross and defeating death through His resurrection. Who better to look to and seek instruction from but the One who created us, created our world, became one of us, lived like us, and obeyed His Father perfectly? Jesus faced death and came out the Victor. In life, we can certainly learn from failure, but with Jesus we learn from the perspective of success. If we allow Jesus to not simply suggest our goals, but actually set our goals, how do you think life would turn out? If we fully committed ourselves to His instructions, how do you think life would turn out? If we allowed Jesus to identify blocks, challenges, and opportunities we have, how wonderful would that be? The good news is Jesus wants to be all of this and more for His children. Jesus wants to walk intimately with all who would call upon His name. He has a purpose for each of us and a place for each of us. Too many think we only bring extremely big problems to God and all the other problems we just handle ourselves. There are no problems or challenges we face that Jesus does not want to be involved in. I was kidding around with Cathy Moore and the others who were assigned articles to write for this month’s newsletter. I was trying to pawn my article off on someone else, actually anyone else! Eventually and jokingly Cathy’s grandsons became nominated to write my article. One of them took it serious and wrote the following: Now we might take his statement and think it cute. I think it is cute but it also illustrates some awesome truths. Allowing Jesus to lead us is simple if we will trust Jesus. Jesus is interested in every aspect of our lives even our homework. Jesus will actually help and help in such a way that even a child can understand it’s Jesus helping him. I would say Jesus wants to be our guide and whom better? Is He your guide? Will you give Him the opportunity? It seems amazing to me we would readily welcome the direction of a human life coach but hesitate to trust so much to Jesus. I hope you won’t hesitate but embrace Christ with your whole being. God Bless

On April 12-13 we will be headed to Clinton Arkansas to serve along side other youth groups from all over the state. The mission is called Connect and it is organized by the Arkansas Baptist State Convention and is funded through the Dixie Jackson Fund. I have been blessed to be a part of the Connect Mission Trip for the past eight years. It is so exciting seeing students get outside their comfort zone and serve others. Each year at Connect there are 150 to 200 students and adults that come and serve. This unique mission trip is centered around working with the local church to assist them in ministering to their community. No one knows the immediate needs of a community other than the local church. Of coarse we can never forget the work of the Holy Spirit. It is after all God’s church and we as believers are to be His hands and feet. At the end of the day it is God that leads us to serve and to love others as He has loved us. There is awesome truth and great instruction in 2 Corinthians that I always reflect on when I am preparing to go on a mission trip. 2 Corinthians 4:1-6 Therefore, since through God's mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. (2) Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God. (3) And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. (4) The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (5) For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. (6) For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ. Paul tells us to be humble and to not worry about convincing people to believe. He tells us to rely upon the truth. That truth is the gospel and it alone has the power to set people free. The light is Jesus Christ and it alone has the power to illuminate the path we should travel down. It is amazing to see a community be inspired by the selfless work of missionaries. It is thru these acts of love and kindness that some ,if not all, would come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Even though the work we will do as a student ministry will only be for a day, the impact on the lives in that community will be for eternity. Some will be saved, others will be inspired to consider the truth of the gospel, and some will become missionaries themselves. Never underestimate the power of the Holy Spirit to change lives and never think that you are not equipped to share the gospel. Jesus tells those who believe in Him to go and to make disciples and to teach them all that He has taught them. My hope and prayers are that students would come back from this trip with a new perspective on what it means to love one another. You don’t have to travel out of town or out of the country to serve on a mission trip or to share the gospel. The mission field is all around us. It is with your friends, neighbors, your teachers, your boss and coworkers, and with your family. Pray that God would provide you with opportunities to serve others and to be able to share the gospel with those that are in need. Let this verse from 2 Timothy 1:7 inspire you this day to live your life on mission for Jesus Christ. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. Your Brother in Christ, Thomas Little
