FROM THE PRESIDENT As we begin the year, the members of the board of directors join me in wishing you dear beneficiaries and volunteers, as well as to the entire population, our best wishes for HEALTH, HAPPINESS and PEACE for the new year. At the start of 2019, the CAB had made its wishes and hoped to: maintain its service offer, recruit new volunteers and increase funding; Well, thanks to you dear volunteers, all our partners and our dynamic work team, we made our wishes come true and we also managed to establish a new service for caregivers. For the year 2020, the CAB wishes you and wishes itself HEALTH. Health to all the volunteers and all the staff who dedicate themselves to the population and good financial health to ensure the continuity of services. On television, on the radio or in the newspapers, we often talk about the needs and services of seniors, I assure you that the CAB is always attentive to the needs of people in its community. In collaboration with the Provincial Federation of Volunteer Action Centers, the CAB promotes our regional realities for the implementation of various programs. Several services are in place and I invite you, dear volunteers, to talk about them to those around you because we still need volunteers. More and more organizations are having difficulty recruiting volunteers to carry out their activities. Volunteers are everywhere and all causes are important and noble. In 2020, I encourage you to share your experience, to tell those around you what volunteering brings you. “We give time, and we receive pride, appreciation, pleasure, and satisfaction,… we have the impression of having contributed to the well-being of others, of having made the difference in our community ". Roseline Adams FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER Hello to you, faithful readers of Inter Coeurs, Already 3 months have passed since the last publication. We had a busy fall and after a few weeks off, we are ready to begin the last portion of our fiscal year, which ends on March 31st. Until then, we have a lot of administrative work to do. It’s time for annual funding requests. Before the holidays, we had confirmation of an increase in funding for the Community Organizations Support Program (PSOC), for organizations working in health and social services. This recurring PSOC increase represents an addition of $ 35M from the Government of Quebec for the 2019-2020 fiscal year and this sum is added to the annual indexing, which is 1.8% in 2019-2020. For the CISSS de la Gaspésie, $ 1,041,900 was allocated to support autonomous community organizations. For our organization, we are talking about an increase of $ 6,975. We sincerely thank the entire team of the Regroupement des organizations communautaire de la Gaspésie et les Îles (ROCGÎM) for their invaluable role as representative in this matter. You will see in the following pages that winter and spring will not be quiet either, with the various activities and services underway. Among other things, we are proud to have developed a happy partnership with 2
the Recreational and Community Services of the City of Gaspé, in order to organize a recognition gala for volunteers and organizations, during Volunteer Week which will be held in April 2020. This activity will honor our frame of reference, more specifically in the field "Support to organizations in the development, promotion and recognition of volunteer action". Do not hesitate to follow us on our Facebook page and on our website, and to come see us. We are always happy to receive you. REMINDER OF INSTRUCTIONS TO PEOPLE RECEIVING TRANSPORTATION SUPPORT FOR MEDICAL APPOINTMENT What is a transport support for medical appointment? It is a service performed by a volunteer driver, as part of the activities of a community and volunteer organization. The Hauban Volunteer Center Inc. is duly recognized by the Minister of Health and Social Services for offering this support. Accompaniment-transport, as its name suggests, consists of accompanying a person in need of physical support, comfort or supervision and who cannot find, in his entourage, the resources necessary to accompany him to establishments and health and social services organizations (private or public) as well as all health professionals (family doctor, optometrist, dentist, etc.) To ensure proper operation, here are some important instructions to follow: The 48 hour deadline must be respected to make a request, in order to give us time to find a available volunteer. You should not contact the volunteer directly. It is important to always contact the volunteer center with any questions or changes. The only stop authorized is at the pharmacy, to receive a prescription for medicines following the medical appointment. Any other stops are not authorized. Do not hesitate to contact us if you need more information about the medical transportation and we thank you all for your collaboration. You can also consult our website at rightsetrecours.org. What is a caregiver? A caregiver is someone who takes care, without remuneration, of a friend, relative or loved one. It allows this loved one to have the privilege of staying at home thanks to their help, care and presence. 1.5 million Quebecers * (= 24% of adults in Quebec), the proportion of Quebecers who offer at least one hour of help per week. And among these, approximately 200,000 Quebecers offer 20 hours or more of assistance per week. It's enormous! We become caregivers when someone around us needs our help because they can no longer take care of themselves. If you are a family member or friend who provides unpaid care to a loved one with a physical, cognitive or mental health problem, you are indeed a caregiver, that is, a caregiver, an essential health care partner and someone who also has needs to be filled. This is why it is important to take care of yourself in order to take better care of the other. Your Hauban Volunteer Center can provide support, information and support. Do not hesitate to contact us. Israël LeGuédard, Caregiver support 418 368-6634, ext 1 Source : According to a 2016 survey by APPUI 7
