We even have our own JustGiving campaign page set up for My Big Fun Walk 2020! You can follow the links below to direct you to each platform, where you can sign up and create your pages. - JustGiving www.justgiving.com/campaign/mybigfunwalk2021 - click on the orange ‘Fundraise for Us’ button which will direct you to setting up a page. Sponsorship fundraising ideas: • See if your employer runs a matched - giving scheme – it could help you double your money! • Hold virtual events such as a quiz or bingo night, or dinner party! • Offer to do chores for family or friends, like the washing up or walking the dog. • Offer to do mini-challenges during your walk and ask for pledges towards your sponsorship if you complete them. For instance you could record yourself singing a requested song, or taking photos near a landmark someone has challenged you to walk to etc. •If you have a birthday before the walk, do a birthday fundraiser on Facebook or have people donate to your fundraising page.
Tips to make the most of your Fundraising Page UPLOAD A PHOTO Pages with photos get more donations than those that don’t. It could include photos from your past Big Fun Walks for instance, or perhaps picture of you and the individual who inspired you to take part! SET A TARGET Be brave and let supporters know what you are aiming for. Outline how this will help North London Hospice, so they understand the impact of their gift. Take a look at the next page “Here’s how your money helps” to see if a particular service or item on it could be your overall target!” TELL YOUR STORY Let people know what inspired you to support North London Hospice - perhaps you have a personal connection, live locally or are celebrating someone or something. GET CREATIVE! Give people an extra reason to donate, by sharing videos of your training, holding an event (virtual or not!) or setting yourself a challenge like a sponsored silence. PROMOTE YOUR PAGE VIA SOCIAL MEDIA Use your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms to share your page to your networks and ask others to repost it to reach even further! Hashtag relevant words like #mybigfunwalk, #fundraising or #hospicecare, and tag us so we can repost to our followers too! Post updates frequently to keep people engaged. PROMOTE YOUR PAGE VIA EMAIL Send your page address to your email contacts along with a few lines explaining why you need their support, and send reminder emails as well. Add your page address to your work and personal email signatures so everyone who you email can see it. DON’T DO IT ALONE Team fundraising can help you to raise 10% more than if you were alone, so get friends, family and colleagues involved too. GET YOUR WORK PLACE INVOLVED Impress your bosses by letting them know what you are doing, and ask for help to promote your fundraising, whether it be in the next newsletter or doing a shout out on your website! Your workplace may even offer matched funding. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL PRESS A bit of exposure such as a few lines in the local paper or an appeal on your local radio station can really help. If they publicise your page address, it will be really easy for readers and listeners to support you. THANK PEOPLE Saying thank you is important - you can update the story on your page, send emails out to your donors, tweet a thank you and update your Facebook status. Let people know how your fundraising went and how their support will help North London Hospice.
Best Apps for your walk You can find a pedometer in most smartphones now which track your steps and distances too, such as the Health app on an iPhone. However, there are all sorts of free downloadable apps which come with lots of extra handy features which may be useful for your walk and even more activities too! This page will list two of our most recommended ones: Strava Strava is an incredibly popular app amongst cyclists and runners, but it also has features walkers can take advantage of too! Whether you are a fitness fanatic or a complete beginner, it has been built for everyone. It is completely free to download and sign up to, and users can choose to login online or through their iPhone/Android app. Its key features include: •Creating and tracking routes. Your app will show the area around you and when you walk, the route is shown in red. You can also use it for all sorts of activities, like cycling or indoor workouts! •Measuring and analysing performance by looking at times, speeds and distances. •Sharing updates and connect with other people. •Creating teams or clubs (which is great for those who are walking as a team)! •Easily connecting to compatible fitness devices, allowing users to create a full picture of their activity. This includes fitness watches and cycling GPS trackers like Fitbit and Garmin. •Connecting your Strava account straight to your JustGiving fundraising page in three easy steps, where your time, distance and route can be uploaded for your sponsors to see. JustGiving statistics show you can raise 40% more, on average, when you upload your fitness activities! If you would like to use this feature, click here to see how you can get started and also more benefits of using Strava for fundraising. MapMyWalk MapMyWalk is an app available on Android, and iPhones too! It is a part of a large family of apps, but this is definitely the best one for My Big Fun Walk! It is also incredibly easy to work. All you’ll need is to register for a free account! Some of its best features are: •When you start your walk, you can see a map of the area. As you walk, the route you have taken is marked in red. The map allows you to explore. By seeing the path you’ve taken you’re able to find your way back to where you started. •You can get audio feedback as you walk. The app can announce your distance, pace, calories burned, and other data every mile, half-mile, or another interval. •When you finish, you can upload and save your workout data and view it both on the app and on the MapMyWalk website. You could even upload a photo of your route on your fundraising pages too. •You can also load a saved route to use again, or select routes that other MapMyWalk users have done in your area. •You can even connect it to your FitBit, so you can see your daily steps as recorded on the device or your mobile. •You aren’t limited to walking! You can use it for running, cycling and hundreds of other activities too. •After registering and allowing the app to access your location services, it will then give you a tutorial showing you how you can use all the features mentioned above! •For the best way to set up your MapMyWalk app, you can click on these links: -https://bit.ly/2Eag28t - For iOS users -https://bit.ly/2WKOaOr - For Android users
