Page 6 THE GARDEN WHISTLE What’s on the Workbench Earlier this year, Don Ellis sent me a link to this site. https://www.camarillopacific.com/campacbox/ Camarillo produce 3D printed mounts and blanking plates for USAT diesel locomotives. The link Don provided covered the installation of the coupler mounts for Kadee couplers and blanking plates for USAT GP&/9 locomotives. As I had already mounted Kadee couplers to my GP7/9 I looked at producing the blanking plates to fill the gap around the couplers. Careful measuring showed that the headstock was 2.43mm deep, the coupler was 25.2mm wide and 3.5mm down in the gap. The gap was 48mm wide x 12mm deep. A blanking plate, with wings, was designed in Fusion 360 and two were 3D printed. They were designed to be a friction fit, for easy removal if necessary. After a trial fit, they were painted and fitted. The look of the locomotive has been improved no end.
