Jesus Has Risen Matthew 28 v1-10 28 1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” 8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” 3

DEVON VICAR DESIGNS NEW APP FOR HOLY WEEK TRAILS A new app that allows churches to create a Holy Week trail around their par- ish will be released on 21 March on Google Play. The app, Biblical Stations, has been designed and created by Plymouth Vic- ar, Father Simon Rundell. It gives churches the technology to create a 15 point route with QR codes around their local area for families to follow and hear the Easter story. Each QR code represents one of the traditional Stations of the Cross. Father Simon said, “There is a need to provide something digital in place of that which we are going to miss this Holy Week, therefore I think it right and prop- er that we use whatever technology is available to us to do that. The aim of the app is to be an alternative to Easter activities that would normally be tak- ing place in churches or in schools. Father Simon said, “It’s fun to find the barcodes, but it’s serious to hear the Easter story. I think children are very ca- pable of appreciating the significance of the story and if you can tie it in with a bit of fun and exercise at the same time then that is even better.” The passages of scripture and messages heard at each of the 15 stations aim to be thought-provoking and engaging for all ages. The inspiration for Fr Simon’s Easter trail app was the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem, where pilgrims follow the route Jesus is believed to have walked on his way to the cross. “It gives us the opportunity to encounter the biblical scriptures which speak of Christ’s passion and reflect on them and I think that’s something that has got resonance for all generations,” he said. Father Simon, from the parishes of Bickleigh and Shaugh Prior, worked in app development before he was ordained 20 years ago. He has continued to use his technology skills in his spare time. “I wanted it to be an initial tool for people, not just spiritually but as an out- reach. People might download this, do a walk and discover Jesus’ story for the first time.” Families on the trail will use a smartphone to scan each of the codes when they reach that point in the trail, triggering the Bible reading to be played. “If you wanted to set the stations 5miles apart then it could take all day, but in normal circumstances it would be a gentle walk around a parish. These sta- tions could be a lamp post or a friendly shop window,” explained Father Si- mon. “If we can use technology for Jesus then I think that is its greatest use and purpose. I wanted it to be an initial tool for people, not just spiritually but as an outreach. People might download this, do a walk and discover Jesus’ sto- ry for the first time.” Some parishes in Devon have already expressed interest in using the app to create a holy week trail in their own area. The parish magazine is on the website, click the link above and find out about sto- ries of faith, stories of mission and the beginnings of new chapters! QUOTE The quote below came up during the penultimate Lent Course session, and I have been asked to publish it as a result Edinburgh Missionary Conference of 1910. "We have lost the eternal youthfulness of Christianity and have aged into calculat- ing manhood. We seldom pray in earnest for the extraordinary, the limitless, the glorious. We seldom pray with real confidence for any good to the realization of which we cannot imagine a way. And yet we suppose ourselves to believe in an infinite Father." SCAM WARNING There is a scam email going around. There have been cases where it looks like the email has come from a member of our congregations - including Kay, Keith and Karl. It mentions amazon vouchers and requires a pin number. Please ignore it and delete it - it has been titled ‘Good Morning’ and ‘Request’.
