#BiaLover2016
www.bialover.ieWelcome Bia Lover celebrates and promotes the wonderful variety and quality of food and drink produced in Galway & the West of Ireland. With this in mind the core event is a showcase where artisan and craft producers can pro- mote and sell their goods on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June. The market is located in the centre of Athenry beside the Clarin River and with the beautifully restored Athenry Castle as a backdrop. Cookery demonstrations featuring local produce will add to the experience, while musi- cians, artists and ent ertainers will ensure that there is something for everyone at Bia Lover 2016. From Wednesday 15th until Sunday 19th there will also be talks, art trails and more attractions, in various locations. The region surrounding Athenry is definitely worth exploring, situated just 20km east of Galway City on the M6 motorway and with regular rail services to Galway, Dublin and Limerick and bus services to Galway, it couldn’t be easier to visit us this mid-summers week- end! ‘Galway 2020’ Galway City and County are bidding to be the European Capital of Culture 2020. We are delighted to lend our support to the campaign and, should the bid be success- ful, to showcase the Bia Lover Festival to an even larger audience.
‘European Region of
Gastronomy’
Following six months of planning and stakeholder
engagement Galway has won the designation ‘European
Region of Gastronomy’ in 2018. The designation is not
just a culinary award; the programme is designed to link
food, hospitality, culture and tourism and create better
quality of living for citizens in a region. Key areas in the
Galway bid included health, education and sustainability.
The title of the Galway bid ‘From the Ground Up -
Feeding our Future’ will focus on exactly this approach
- working with all stakeholders across the county and
islands demonstrating how a community of like minded
and dedicated professionals can make a difference in
creating a sustainable food platform for now and future
generations.

Bia Lover 2016 Art Exhibitions will be held at Athenry

es innovation and integration in gastronomy, culture,

should demonstrate their uniqueness through offering
a comprehensive and complex experience to a visitor
created as a result of creative coexistence and appreciation
of culture, gastronomy, and art or artistic expressions.
Bia Banter is an open discussion forum hosted by Jacinta
Dalton from G.M.I.T & Liam Heneghan from Bia Lover
