About ideateCOMM Challenge In view of various pressing societal issues, engineering and ICT solutions had become an important tool to alleviate these issues. ideateCOMM Challenge presents itself the opportunity for youths to bring about innovative solutions and fresh perspectives. Through a 2-weeks challenge, youths will be able to apply their classroom knowledge to solving a real-world problem in our community. Training workshop and thematic webinars are planned to build participants' competencies and subject matter knowledge to better understand the problem statement. Through ideateCOMM Challenge 2021, we aim to: 1. Empower youths by providing a platform for youths studying in polytechnics and ITEs to solve social problems in Singapore with technology solution 2. Raise awareness of social issues and how youths can be empowered to solve these issue 3. Build capabilities and capacities by providing job ready skills training relevant to the Engineering and ICT sector via preparatory workshops Embargoed till 5 June 2021 3
Event Conduct In view of the COVID-19 Safe Management Measures, the competition will be held fully online from 21 June 2021 to 3 July 2021. Teams are reminded to adhere to existing government regulations if they self-organize any physical meeting. From now till 21 June, teams can start reading up on information relating to food waste. During the opening ceremony on 21 June, the problem statement will be released. Teams will then have the week to brainstorm their solutions. Each team will be required to submit a 250-words write up on their preliminary proposed solution by 25 June, 2359h (GMT +8). Within the same week of 21 June to 25 June, thematic webinars and technical workshops will be organized for participants to deepen their subject matter knowledge and improve their technical skills. The results for the preliminary round will be made known by 27 June through email and our official event website. Teams which qualify for the final judging will then have the week of 28 June to 2 July to work on their project pitch. Teams which qualify for the final pitching will need to join the final pitching day on 3 July. The closing ceremony and prize presentation will be held in the evening of 3 July. Key Event Timeline The competition will run from 21 June 2021 to 3 July 2021. It is important to take note of the key event dates and not miss any important submissions. i. Submission of Preliminary Proposed Solution Write-up (Compulsory) Deadline: 25 June 2021 (Friday), 2359H (GMT +8) Information: Each team will be required to submit a 250-words summary explaining their proposed solution and how it can be implemented in the community. Optional: Teams can upload an image to support their idea submission iii. Competition Deliverables The problem statement will be related to food waste. Teams are to come up with a solution and an implementation proposal on the problem statement which will be released on 21 June 2021. We welcome hardware solution like an innovative new gadget or a software solution like a mobile app. Data science or data analytics solutions are also welcomed. Submission Format: i. ALL teams will be required to submit a 250-words summary of their proposed project idea and how it can be implemented by 25 June 2021 2359H (GMT+8). ii. Selected teams will be required to prepare a 5-minutes pitch deck for the final presentation and be prepared to answer questions from the judges. Teams are encouraged to design a simple prototype to illustrate your idea. Embargoed till 5 June 2021 7
Workshops Five workshops have been planned to improve your technical expertise and soft skills. These workshops will be held fully online. Registration information for the workshops can be found in the hyperlinks below as well as on our event website. Deadline for registration is on 18 June 2021 (Friday) so register now as places are limited! Note: Each participant must register for the workshop individually.
