EVENT MAPS – CASINHA & CACHANGA DO ZOUK ROOMS
BALLROOMS
Due to popular request, we are very excited to be using 3 Ballrooms at the Mantra this year. To ensure
all participants can see the instructors, workshops will be split between the Casarao Room (L4 Palm
Ballroom), Casinha Room and Cachanga do Zouk Room (L2 Boulevard Ballroom). The J&J competition
and the parties will only use the Casarao Room.
Please note you must register for your event wristband on arrival at the Casarao Room.
ACCOMMODATION
If you haven’t yet booked your accommodation for the weekend book now as rooms are running out at
the Mantra on View Hotel which hosts the event ballrooms. Full details and how to book discounted

Bus
• Surfside bus lines run frequently to and from the Gold Coast Airport. For timetables and route
information please contact Surfside.
Train
• Brisbane Airtrain offers regular services to/from the Brisbane Domestic and International
terminals. You can book an Airtrain connect service that will transfer to/from a Gold Coast train
station to Surfers Paradise.
Taxi
• Jump straight off the plane and straight into a Gold Coast Taxi from the Gold Coast Airport. It
will cost approximately $60 one way.
Tram
• Trams are now operating through Surfers Paradise. For more details visit:

PARKING
Car parking is available at the Mantra on View Hotel. Hotel guests and conference delegates may use
the hotel car park at a charge of $8.00 per day. When arriving at Hotel, firstly register with Reception
and leave luggage at Concierge prior to parking your car. Please note, the hotel offers valet parking at
a charge of $15.00 per day.

This year we are going paperless, we will not have paper copies of CDZ timetable available at
reception. Please make sure you download the Dance Place app as per instructions bellow to access

EVENT REGISTRATION
Event Registration is open at the Casarao Ballroom ONLY, all weekend starting from:
1. 12:30pm on Thursday 18th July for UrbanKiz Immersion, Samba de Gafieira Immersion
Course, Strategy Workshop for Competitors and Performers and Casa do Zouk participants.
2. 9am on Friday 19th July for Casa do Zouk participants.
3. 9:30am on Saturday 20th July for Casa do Zouk participants.
Note that only Samba de Gafieira Immersion Course pass holders can attend the Thursday Samba
workshops from 1pm – 6:40pm, only UrbanKiz pass holders can attend Kizomba workshops from 5-
9pm and only the Strategy Workshop pass holders can attend the class with Jordan and Tatiana from
7-9pm. Thursday intensives and Casa do Zouk passholders can attend the Thursday night party
featuring Brazilian Zouk, Kizomba and Samba de Gafieira music from 9pm to 3am.
You should bring photo id to the registration desk in the Casarao Room to receive your event
wristbands. There will be security on site checking wristbands for the duration of the event and we
cannot replace lost wristbands. To replace damaged wristbands make sure bring the old one to
registration desk.
If you have already registered for the Jack & Jill competition online, you will be able to collect your
competitor number and pin to affix at the registration desk when you check in.
SUNDAY LET’S GET TOGETHER AND MINGLE!
This year we have a special get together on the bar on level 2! We will do a group, drink and eat
together!

THEMED PARTIES
There are two themed parties over the weekend.
• Friday night Flashback Party – DJs will play our favourite Zouk songs from the 90’s so
let’s dress up with our favourite 90’s clothes!
• Saturday night – Red and White Party
WEATHER FORECAST
The forecast is for a very pleasant weekend however the evenings can get cold especially if you
choose to spend time on the balcony so please bring warm clothing.FOOD
We are very excited to have delicious meals available for participants to purchase on the balcony
outside the Casa do Zouk Casarao Room. Meal tickets can be purchased for $20.00 per plate from
hotel staff at the bar area and be redeemed for the meal on the balcony.
The set menu is as follows:

condiments.
Friday Dinner 7:00pm – 9:00pm Crispy grilled chicken marinated with garlic, chilli & herbs.

Saturday Lunch 1pm–3pm Baked Pasta Carbonara served with Salad
Saturday Dinner 7:00pm – 9:00pm Chicken cacciatore with mushroom, olives and tomatoes,
steamed rice and salad, dressing and condiments.
Sunday Lunch 1pm–3pm Traditional beef lasagne served with salad, dressing and
condiments.
If you prefer other food, there are a number of great restaurants nearby the hotel on Cavill Avenue in
Surfers Paradise and surrounding areas. Alfresco Italian restaurant http://alfrescogc.com/ is also a
great choice.

Mantra on View will be operating a bar inside the venue from:
• Thursday 9:00pm to 3:00am (alcohol served until 3am)
• Friday 9:00pm to 4:00am (alcohol served until 2am)• Saturday 9:00pm to 4:00am (alcohol served until 2am)
• Sunday 9:00pm to 4:00am (alcohol served until 3am)

Please note that alcohol consumed at the event can only be purchased from the bar inside the

There is a bottle shop around the corner from the Mantra on View hotel that you can purchase alcohol
from if you would like to consume it in your room.
PERFORMANCES & DJS
A list of the DJ sets and the performance order will be available online in the days leading up to the

PERFORMERS
Notes for performers:
• Performers must send an email to the Casa do Zouk team at info@casadozouk.com.au
attaching their performance music in MP3 format before the event.
• Performers must attend tech rehearsal on the day of their performance. Do not be late for tech
rehearsal otherwise you will miss your opportunity to rehearse.
o Thursday – 9pm to 9:30pm
o Friday – 7:00pm to 8:00pm
o Saturday – 7:00pm to 8:00pm
• There is only time for each team to quickly mark out the stage and run their routine with music
once.• Shows will start at 10:30pm on Thursday night and 9:30pm sharp on Friday and
Saturday. Performers must be in costume, ready to perform, and waiting inside the
partitions on the Private Dance Floor area by 9pm. You can stretch and practice on this floor
or on the balcony leading up to your show.
JACK & JILL
Registration
Final registrations for the Jack & Jill events will close as follows:
• Novice and Intermediate- Friday 20th July, 10:30am.
Note though the entry fee for the Jack & Jill competition is $21 online before the event starts and $30 at
the event.
You can sign up at the registration desk where you will also be able to collect your competitor number
and pin to affix to the back of your clothing for when you compete.
Competitor Meeting
There is a meeting for all Jack & Jill competitors from 10:30am-11:00am on Friday 20th July in the
Casarao room. This meeting will explain to competitors:
• how the competition will run;
• what the judging criteria is; and
• how the scoring works.
It will also be an opportunity for competitors to ask any questions they may have.
Competition Timeline
Competitors need to be ready to compete and be waiting in the Casarao Room 15 minutes before the
scheduled start time of their competition for marshalling into heats.
Novice Competition
• Prelims – Friday 19th July, 1:30pm
• Semi-finals – Saturday 20th July, 1:30pm
• Finals – Sunday 21st July, 1:30pm
Intermediate Competition
• Prelims – Saturday 20th July, 2:30pm
• Finals – Sunday 21st July, 2:15pm
Advanced Competition

The Casa do Zouk Jack & Jill competition does not have a specific dress code however you should
dress to impress. Keep your competition attire smart and neat. No bared feet allowed.

The Brazilian Zouk J&J Awards will be presented on Sunday night after the invitational Jack & Jill
competition concludes.
Audition for Professional Development classes
If you would like to join our professional development classes and don’t have BZDC points on
Intermediate and above, you are welcome to attend the audition on Friday at 9:30am. The audition will
work as a Jack and Jill format, where you will have to dance 3 songs with 3 different partners and our
instructors will be handling passes to qualified participants.
CASA DO ZOUK 2020
Preparations are already in full swing for Casa do Zouk 2020 and this year’s participants will have the
opportunity to buy their passes for next year’s event at a discounted price for a short time only.
More information will be available during this year’s event.
