On September 4, 2020, in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, the Kiwanis Club of
Santa Fe overcame the challenges of COVID-19 and welcomed the largest audience
ever to participate in the 96th Burning of Zozobra, when the live event with no live
audience was safely and successfully broadcast and webcast for free by KOAT-TV and
KOAT.com, reaching 363,773 households around the world.
Thousands of New Mexicans were joined by people watching from all 50 states and 14
countries. Zozobra’s social media reach was off the charts and the event had zero
COVID cases or spread!
Now it’s 2021, and we’re ready to help New Mexico re-open with summer’s hottest
party! The 97th Burning of Zozobra returns in go-go 80’s style for Year Seven of our
signature Decades Project, broadcast/webcast for FREE again by KOAT and koat.com!
After Zozobra 2019, we thought our
statistics were pretty hot. Kiwanis
hosted the largest audience ever
and the event went off like
clockwork without a single incident.
The 96th Burning of Zozobra ended
with fireworks blazing overhead as
the crowd of over 60,000 revelers
turned the event into a dance party,
waving their hands in the air to the
YMCA song and proving without a
doubt that in New Mexico, we
“Don’t Stop Believing!”
2020 was definitely a Zozobra for the
record books. Check out those record
numbers – bigger and better than 2019!
When the pandemic hit, Kiwanis
pressed the pivot button and pulled off
the only live 2020 event in the state of
New Mexico.
Thousands attended watch parties all
over the country and saw Santa Fe’s
most iconic malcontent go down in a
blaze of glory. 100% that they’ll be back
for festive and fiery gloom-riddance
again in 2021!
The Kiwanis Club has even more amazing opportunities to share! On December 31,
2020, we created an only-in-Santa-Fe live New Year's Eve broadcast/webcast live from
the Plaza. 35,000 TV viewers and 10,000 webcast watchers found out that staying
home to welcome the New Year has never been more fun! The incredible fireworks
display launched from the roof of La Fonda was absolutely epic and this vibrant winter
tradition, is already scheduled for its seventh return on Friday, December 31, 2021.
The pandemic may have put the brakes on the City of Santa Fe’s annual Fourth of July
celebration in 2020, but this year, Kiwanis is already fired up to make Santa Fe’s July
4th the best ever! We promise our fellow citizens, families, friends and visitors a free
party to celebrate our nation’s birth with fun and festivities. And you can rest assured
that the fireworks display will be bigger, better and even more amazing!
Kiwanis is looking forward to the privilege of creating these three festive events again
for our community, but the success of our city’s historic and meaningful traditions can
only endure with generous, understanding partners like you who embrace these
annual opportunities to make a lasting local impression. And with your help, each of [
OUR KIDS NEED YOU! In December 2020,the Santa Fe
Kiwanis transferred $44,000 in
hard-won funds from the 2020 net
proceeds of Zozobra to the Santa
Fe Downtown Kiwanis Foundation,
to fund nonprofits, including the
Kiwanis International Neonatal
Tetanus Program by awarding
grants to area nonprofits with
child-focused missions.
