Divine Service – Setting Four p. 203 + CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION + The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism. Invocation P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C who made heaven and earth. P If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? C But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. P Since we are gathered to hear God’s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner. C Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen. P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. + SERVICE OF THE WORD + Introit Psalm 28:1–2, 6–7; antiphon: v. 8 P: The LORD is the strength of his | people;* he is the saving refuge of his a- | nointed. C: To you, O LORD, I call; my rock, be not | deaf to me,* lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down | to the pit. P: Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to | you for help,* when I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctu- | ary. C: Blessèd | be the LORD!* 2
For he has heard the voice of my pleas for | mercy. P: The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and | I am helped;* my heart exults, and with my song I give | thanks to him. All: Glory be to the Father and | to the Son* and to the Holy | Spirit; as it was in the be- | ginning,* is now, and will be forever. | Amen. P: The LORD is the strength of his | people;* he is the saving refuge of his a- | nointed. Kyrie LSB 204 Gloria in Excelsis LSB 204 Salutation and Collect of the Day P The Lord be with you. 3
C And also with you. P Let us pray. O Lord, let Your merciful ears be open to the prayers of Your humble servants and grant that what they ask may be in accord with Your gracious will; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen. Old Testament Reading Isaiah 35:4–7a 4 Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; 6 then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; 7 the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water.” A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Gradual Psalm 34:9, 19, alt. All: Fear the LORD, | you his saints,* for those who fear him lack | nothing! Many are the afflictions of the | righteous,* but the LORD delivers him out | of them all. Epistle James 2:1–10, 14–18 1 My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. 2For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also 4
comes in, 3and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” 4have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? 5 Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? 6But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? 7Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called? 8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. 9But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. . . . 14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Alleluia and Verse 5
Holy Gospel Mark 7:24–37 P The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the seventh chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord. 24 From there [Jesus] arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered a house and did not want anyone to know, yet he could not be hidden. 25But immediately a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet. 26Now the woman was a Gentile, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27And he said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 28But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” 29And he said to her, “For this statement you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter.” 30 And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone. 31 Then he returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. 32And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged him to lay his hand on him. 33And taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his tongue. 34And looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” 35And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. 36And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. 37 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ. Nicene Creed C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary 6
and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen. 7

Sermon Guest - Rev. Dr. Corey Rajec Text Prayer of the Church Offering/Offering Hymn 545 Word of God, Come Down on Earth Tune: Public domain Text: © 1969 OCP Publications. Used by permission: LSB Hymn License no. 110004882 + Service of the Sacrament + Preface LSB 208 P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Lift up your hearts. C We lift them to the Lord. P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C It is right to give Him thanks and praise. 9
P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, for the countless blessings You so freely bestow on us and all creation. Above all, we give thanks for Your boundless love shown to us when You sent Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into our flesh and laid on Him our sin, giving Him into death that we might not die eternally. Because He is now risen from the dead and lives and reigns to all eternity, all who believe in Him will overcome sin and death and will rise again to new life. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying: Sanctus LSB 208 Prayer of Thanksgiving P Blessed are You, O Lord our God, king of all creation, for You have had mercy on us and given Your only-begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. In Your righteous judgment You condemned the sin of Adam and Eve, who ate the forbidden fruit, and You justly barred them and all their children from the tree of life. Yet, in Your great mercy, You promised salvation by a second Adam, Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, and made His cross a life-giving tree for all who trust in Him. We give You thanks for the redemption You have prepared for us through Jesus Christ. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may faithfully eat and drink of the fruits of His cross and receive the 10
blessings of forgiveness, life, and salvation that come to us in His body and blood. Hear us as we pray in His name and as He has taught us: Lord’s Prayer C Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. The Words of Our Lord P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” Pax Domini P The peace of the Lord be with you always. C Amen. Agnus Dei LSB 210 11
Distribution The pastor and those who assist him receive the body and blood of Christ first and then distribute them to those who come to receive, saying: Take, eat; this is the true body of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, given into death for your sins. Amen. Take, drink; this is the true blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, shed for the forgiveness of your sins. Amen. Distribution Hymns 12

Jesus’ healing hand and command make the man’s deaf ears to hear and mute tongue to speak. Jesus says the word, and it happens! The Holy Spirit opens our ears and hearts to listen to the Word so that the healing effects of the Gospel might take hold within us. While Jesus wanted all who witnessed this miracle to keep silent for a time, He opens our ears to hear and receive the Gospel, and He gives us mouths to proclaim His mercies to all. Daily Devotions from the Pastors of the Black Hills Circuit – Friends, I am excited to tell you about a new project from the Black Hills Circuit LCMS churches. We know, now more than ever what isolation does. We also know what isolation from God’s Word does. The Black Hills Circuit will be offering daily video devotions on our Facebook page, Fellowship for the Future. Each week one of the Black Hills Circuit Churches will guide us into the hope and promise we have in God’s Word. The devotions will be about 15 minutes and will include a Psalm and Old Testament or a New Testament reading, a section from the Catechism, the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. We will follow the readings from the Daily Lectionary in the LSB hymnal, page 299.Starting November 2, the first post on the Fellowship for the Future page will have a link that will direct you to that day’s devotion. Please join us and tell your family and friends to join as we are strengthened, forgiven and given hope in Jesus. Tithes and Offerings - Did you know that we now have an option for online giving?
