Due to coronavirus we are keeping more doors and windows open, so please send your child to school with a few layers for when they are indoors and ensure they have a warm coat/gloves/a hat for outdoors. #OnlineSafetyAtHome packs We have some online safety resources for parents that have been produced by Thinkuknow. Whatsapp – a parent’s guide WhatsApp launches new disappearing messages option WhatsApp has officially announced a new ‘Disappearing Messages’ feature with a full rollout globally this month. The ‘Disappearing Messages’ feature will allow users to enable an option on individual and group chats that deletes new messages after seven days. The new feature will be available across Android and iOS devices, along with WhatsApp Web and Desktop platforms, by the end of this month. Whilst WhatsApp's minimum user age is 16, many children and young people have accounts. Auto- deleting entries could increase the risk to younger users as evidence of any issues may not be available. On our school website in the E-Safety Pages, we have provided a link to A Guide to Parental Controls on WhatsApp. Howbridge Infant School Dengie Close, Witham, Essex CM8 1DJ 01376 512153 | admin@howbridge-inf.essex.sch.uk | Headteacher: Ms A Conley
Late attendance We have noticed an increasing number of children arriving late to school. The classroom doors are open from 8.30am every day and all pupils are expected to arrive at school no later than 8:55am ready to start the school day. Pupils arriving late to school cause disruption to their learning as well as other pupils’ and it can be upsetting for them and their classmates. All children arriving late to school must be logged at the school office on the attendance and visitor management screen. Class registers close at 8:55 am and late arrivals cannot be recorded by the teacher, therefore your child's attendance must be recorded in the school office. Thank you for your support in this matter. Important reminders It is critical that you continue to support the safety measures in place around the school such as wearing facemasks, maintaining social distance and ensuring that only one adult brings your child to school. Please continue to follow the one-way system around school and do not huddle together outside the main gates, outside the classrooms or in the shelters. If you need to speak to someone in school or if there is anything that we can help you with, please do not hesitate to phone or email and someone will help you. Thank you for your continued support. School places – September 2021 If you have a child who will be 5 between 1st September 2021 and 31 August 2022, you will need to apply for a school place, even if your child already attends a nursery. Parents/carers of children who are currently in Year 2 will also need to apply for a Year 3 place. Applications can be made online via www.essex.gov.uk between 9th November 2020 and 15th January 2021. It is really important that all applications are made by the national closing date of 15 th January 2021. All applications made after this date are considered to be late and may result in your child not being offered a school of your choice. Most schools will be replacing parent visits with virtual tours this year - we will be adding ours to our website soon. Milk bottle lids Please could you keep any milk bottle lids and send them into school washed for an activity that Year 1s are doing at school next week. Thank you!
