Sign-up Letter is due Sept 1st by 4pm! Students who would like to be placed in the “lottery” for available seats on the trip must return a signed sign-up letter & contract to Mrs. Smith in the office by Sept 1st at 4pm. Once the lottery is completed students will receive a notice Sept 3rd of their offered seat # or their # on the waitlist. If they are offered a seat, a $100 non-refundable deposit (cash/check) is due to Mrs. Smith in the office Sept 8-10th. After Sept 15th any seats with unpaid deposits will be given to the next students on the waitlist. We will fill open spots, in the order of the lottery waitlist as they become available. Students must remain eligible Sept 1, 2021 through the trip (No outside suspensions, No more than 1 inside suspension, 2.0 GPA Qtr1/Sem1/Qtr3, No more than 7 tardies each quarter, No more than 1 day/8 uncleared/truant period absences each quarter). $100 deposit is non-refundable (no exceptions—if your student becomes ineligible or cannot go for any reason the deposit is forfeited and the spot is given to the next student on the waitlist who is eligible). The trip costs $300 total. Deposit of $100 is due for offered seats by Sept 10, 2021. Payments of $70 10/4, $70 11/1, and $60 12/6 are due to Ms. Smith in the office.
PARENT INFORMATION FOR CATALINA MAY 20-22, 2022 Where will my child be going? 8th Graders and chaperones leave THMS at 6:00am on May 20th to the Long Beach Pier. From there we will be taking a ferry to Toyon Bay on Catalina Island. We will not be going through Avalon; the boat takes us straight to camp. How much will the trip cost? The total cost for the trip, including transportation, lodging, food and camp is $300.00. A $100.00 deposit is required by 9/10/20 to hold your students spot. The deposit is NOT refundable. All accounts must be paid in full no later than January 15, 2022. Where will my child be sleeping? The sleeping arrangements are dormitory style. Rooms range in size from 4-10 students. Girls and boys dorms are separate. Chaperones sleep in the dorms but not in the rooms with the students. Students will need a sleeping bag and pillow to use on the trip. What about a two-piece swim suit? Two-piece swim suits are not allowed. The weather in May is still chilly as is the water. Snorkeling activities require the use of a wet suit (provided by the camp). Putting on the wet suit is hard enough without having to worry about keeping a two piece swim suit in place. Girls need to bring a one piece swim suit. What about meals? Meals will be provided starting with Friday’s evening meal. Students need to bring a sack lunch on Friday. We will be leaving the school at 6:00am to go directly to boat loading at Long Beach Pier. We will not be stopping for breakfast or lunch. Food is sold on the boat but it is expensive. What about bringing money? There is a camp store on the island that sells souvenirs and snacks. The most expensive item at the store is a hooded sweatshirt, which runs about $30.00. I highly recommend not bringing more than $50.00. Students are responsible for their money. What about the payment schedule? A $100.00 deposit secures your student’s spot for this trip. Payments due will be $70.00 October 4th, $70.00 November 1st, and $60.00 December 6th. Can I pay more now? You can pay the full amount, $300.00, at any time once your student is offered a spot. What about other schools? We will see other schools on the boat ride over and in passing at the camp. We do not have group time, mealtime, or dorm areas with any other schools. What activities will my child be involved in? There will be snorkel events, an astronomy night hike, as well as a number of different marine labs. All of the labs are hands-on, educational, and very cool. DEPOSIT September 8-September 10, 2021 $ 100.00 1st payment October 4, 2021 $ 70.00 2nd Payment November 1, 2021 $ 70.00 3rd Payment December 6, 2021 $60.00 $ 300.00 *All students can sign-up for a spot for the trip. A lottery will be used to determine the order in which students who signed up are offered a seat, and the order of the waitlist for open seats as/if they later become available.
PARENT /STUDENT SIGN-UP LETTER & CONTRACT CATALINA 2022 DEPOSIT September 8-September 10, 2021 $ 100.00 st 1 payment October 4, 2021 $ 70.00 2nd Payment November 1, 2021 $ 70.00 3rd Payment December 6, 2021 $ 60.00 $ 300.00 This trip is for 8th grade students who attend Terrace Hills Middle School. Students leave at 6:00am on Friday, May 20, 2022, and return approximately 3-5pm on Sunday, May 22, 2022. This year, the 2022 Catalina Trip will be done on a “lottery” basis. All students interested in signing up to be included in the lottery for available seats need to turn in this contract to Mrs. Smith in the office by September 1, 2020 at 4:00pm. Only those students who turn in a signed letter/contract will be entered into a “lottery” selection tool. Students will be then offered available seats in the order the lottery selection places them in, and the waitlist will stand from that same original lottery order for seats that may open up afterward. Students will be notified of their position on the seat list or waitlist September 3, 2021 and should bring this notice home. Students offered a seat will need to pay the deposit of $100.00 cash or check to THMS September 8-10, 2021. Any unpaid deposits for offered seats will be reassigned and offered to the next student on the waitlist on September 15, 2021. The $100.00 deposit is NOT refundable. Our contract with Catalina does not refund our initial deposit as it covers our contracted number of spots. Once THMS’ deposit is paid, the spots are secured and cannot be transferred to another school or reduced due to lack of participation. If you have paid in full and your student cannot go, you will be refunded all but the $100.00 deposit. Please check your calendar for family reunions, weddings, and other big events that might conflict with the dates of the trip before signing up. Behavior that will keep your student from going on the Catalina trip (even if paid for): 1. Any outside suspension – 9/1/21 through 5/19/22 2. More than one inside suspension – 9/1/21 through 5/19/22 3. More than 7 tardies per quarter – 9/1/21 through 5/19/22 4. Students must have a 2.0 GPA – for Quarter 1, Semester 1, and Quarter 3 5. More than 1 day/8 unclear period absences/truancies per quarter – 9/1/21 through 5/19/22 I understand any of the above behavior will keep my child from attending the trip, even if I have paid for them to go. If my child is removed for any of these reasons, I will be notified and I understand I will lose my $100.00 deposit. If my child is removed from CIMI at Toyon Bay Catalina Island during the trip for any reason, I am responsible for transportation cost and I must pick up my child at a given location.
