My Favorite Fox River Place
 This is our 6th Annual Photography Contest, open from July 1
  through November 15.

 Our theme this year was “My Favorite Fox River Place.”
Photographers were asked, “do you have a special place along the
Fox River or its tributaries that brings you joy or peace?”

 We love seeing the varied ways people see and interpret the Fox
River and the surrounding landscape. We wanted the photos to
represent a specific or identifiable place in the Fox River watershed

 This year we had 77 total entries from 25 different photographers

 Before we get to the winners, here are a few selections of the variety
  of entries we received.

Suzanne Shover- Bonfire with Marshmallows

This has been quite the year. The river
has brought us peace during these
difficult times. We have had a lot of
much deserved family time especially
around the fire enjoying smores.

Catherine Miller- Fox River Bluff West FP

… An immediate sense of calm and
joy washed over me as my husband,
dog, and myself descended down the
path. This path and many of the other
trails along the Fox river have brought
my family so much joy over the past
year.

This is just south of Hager Potteries in East Dundee. I’ve noticed these dead trees for years,
often they are under water. It’s a beautiful October afternoon.

Honorable Mention #6- Ira Marcus- Reflecting Maples
This image was taken looking west on Water Street in Carpentersville. Prior to my retirement, I
drove this stretch of road adjacent to the Fox River on my way to work each morning. It could
look very different any day and in any season. It was here that I saw my first eagle in the wild.
Some mornings there would be a mist just above the surface of the water. Some days the water
was frozen solid. This photo was made in the early afternoon on a foggy October day. The way
the maples reflected on the slow moving river in the subtle light gave me a very peaceful feeling.

The river walk on the Fox River in Batavia is a peaceful respite from the stressful times we're all
 experiencing in 2020.

Honorable Mention #4- Britta McKenna
"Fall Snowfall Along the Fox" was taken on a crisp November morning in 2019 just after an
early season snowfall, capturing the fleeting days of fall and start of winter..

Honorable Mention #3- Christina Forbes-
Taken in May on Silver Creek, a small tributary of the Fox River near Cary. The moody day made
Silver Creek live up to the liquid metallic name.
Honorable Mention #2- Ira Marcus- Elgin River Walk
The Elgin River Walk enables the community to get close to the Fox River while
remaining in an urban setting. This image, captured just after sunset features a
modern take on a gazebo. Made from a tinsel fabric, it provides shade during
the day. When lit with colorful lights at night it adds a touch of vibrancy.
Honorable Mention #1- Christina Forbes
When I got out of work at 6 a.m. on a late April morning and saw the thick fog, I knew I had to
get out on my kayak to paddle from Cary to Burton's Bridge. I didn't have to worry about other
boats due to no wake. The water was a beautiful still mirror, everything a natural gray scale.
Runner-Up- Kylee Wells
Fabyan Forest Preserve is one of my favorite places along the Fox River to watch the sunset!
Grand Prize Winner / People’s Choice Award- Scott Poling
August sunrise on the Fox. Went for a run and was stopped in my tracks at Hudson Park in Oswego.
I’ve lived here for 25 years but had never seen the pastel colors like I did that morning reflecting off the
still water, framed out by branches of trees with stepping stones beckoning me to behold the beauty. I
took out my little phone and snapped this picture. It’s always wise to stop and behold a sunrise.
Congratulations and thanks to all of our winners!
