About BAWSI
The Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative (BAWSI) has been transforming the lives of local
children since 2005, when it was founded by women’s sports legends Brandi Chastain, Julie
Foudy and Marlene Bjornsrud. BAWSI mobilizes the women’s sports community to engage, BAWSI
inspire and empower the children who need us most, through two programs that serve
populations with the least access to physical activity and sports. Board of Directors
BAWSI Girls is a free after-school fitness and confidence-building program that inspires young Susan Munne, Board Chair
girls to get active, find their voices, and believe in themselves. Our BAWSI Rollers program Kari Rust, Vice Chair
Dana Weintraub, M.D., Secretary
introduces students with disabilities to physical activity and teamwork in a non-threatening and

accessible way. Our focus on “connected coaching” brings these elementary-aged children Lea Ann Eblin
together with near-peer coaches who model and teach health, wholeness, leadership and Jen Fraisl
