 XX Week of the Italian Language in the World

 The Week of the Italian Language in the World is an event
 promoted every year by the cultural and diplomatic
 network, within the third week of October. It focuses on a
 theme that acts as the leitmotif of a vast cultural
 programme to promote the diffusion of the Italian language.

 This year, the theme of the Week is “Italian Between Word
 and Image: Graffiti, Illustrations, Comic Books”

The Centro per il libro e la letteratura (Center for the book and literature), the Ministry of
Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism and the University of Padua organize several
virtual meetings with the Italian illustrators to discover their interpretations in graphic of
the very special suggestive Italian words.

                             The interviews will start from 5.00 pm and are available on YouTube
                             with the following schedule:

(Comics in the Museum)
"Comics in the Museum" is a project created by the Press and
Communication Office of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and
Activities and Tourism, in collaboration with Coconino Press -
Fandango, designed specifically for children and young people who
participate in museum workshops.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has
included the project amongst the initiatives of Italian cultural
promotion of the XX edition of the Week of the Italian language
in the world

Virtual exhibition: Contemporary Comics:
Themes, Authors and Language in the Italian Graphic Novel.
The Italian Cultural Institute in Jakarta presents more than 30 panels
which lead us on a journey through the themes, authors and language of
comics in Italy.

After debuting as a medium for children (the historical magazine Il
Corriere dei piccoli founded in 1908), comics gradually expanded their
audiences, long remaining true to its popular vocation. In the early of
1960s, comics became more and more sophisticated, marking the
definitive maturity of the medium, which today still struggles to see its
cultural relevance socially recognized. Despite the general unawareness,
Italy became one of the world’s leading producers and part of the
restricted comics superpowers club.

The event is organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Jakarta in
collaboration with Lucca Crea & Lucca Comics & Games, an International
festival of comics, animation, illustration, games and TV held every fall in
Lucca, Tuscany.Lucca Comics & Games is considered the most important
event in its sector in Italy and Europe.

      The Italian Cultural Institute in Jakarta, organizes a webinar with the
           participation of three speakers, who are the protagonists of the
     illustration and design, comic books and graphic novel industry; Laura
       Scarpa, Dina Riyanti and Ario Anindito. The discussion will be led by
              Giovanni Russo from Lucca Comics and Games e Lucca Crea.
