Retreat Featured Projects Choose any of the featured projects, or choose to work on something of your own. NOTE- If you choose to work on your own project, please make sure you are comfortable doing so independently. Instructional time at retreat is reserved for the featured projects, lectures, and or mini classes. Quilting Around the World- 2018 Retreat Last year we announced this year’s theme with a game of quilters jeopardy. (1) This country has a maple leaf on it flag and birds that migrate each year. What is Canada? Use the Ultimate Flying Geese Tool to make “Follow Me”, “Snowbirds”, or “Homeward Bound” from my new book “The Ultimate Flying Geese Book” due out in April.
The geese applique (See bottom left) is optional. (2) Canadian Geese migrate to the southern US or to this country. What is Mexico? The Mexican Star is a fun project that uses a “peel back” technique to give the look of curved piecing. (3) This country produces the most pineapple each year? What is Costa Rica
Use the Pineapple Trim tool to make “Pineapple Pinwheels” or “More Pineapple Pinwheels” (4) This Country has the most annual snowfall. What is Japan Snowflake is an oldie but goodie. I’m revamping this pattern now so that you can use the most up to date techniques to make the half square triangles and flying geese.
(5 & 6) The Not So Mystery…. I recently did an online mystery on the Grids Girls page and am in the midst of a second. If you did not get in on the fun, you are welcome to work on one of these at retreat. “Curiosity” on the right and “Scrappily Ever After” (pic will be posted once this mystery concludes.) “Curiosity” uses the Cat’s Cradle tool, Strippy Stars Tool, Ultimate Flying Geese, and Pineapple Trim Tool. “Scrappily Ever After” uses the Ultimate Flying Geese Tool and Pineapple Trim Too. And as always- you never have to make one of the featured projects. You are welcome to bring a UFO (Unfinished Object) and work on something uniquely your own. Patterns for featured projects will be available on my web site in mid- June. Order yours and have fun choosing just the right fabrics for your “Quilting Around the World” project. www.Debscatsnquilts.com
