START/FINISH The Xcel Energy Tour de Ocho Millas will begin with a mass start from the Lea Lake Recreation Area at 8:00 am (see maps above). Out of courtesy to faster riders, please allow all metric century riders (8 loops, 62+ miles) to line up and start first. Riders attempting three or less loops (8-24 miles) please line up and depart last. Water, snacks, restrooms, and first-aid will all be available at the Start/Finish line throughout the event. The course will begin to close precisely at noon for cyclists to complete their final lap of the Xcel Energy Tour de Ocho Millas. BIB NUMBERS Official numbers must be worn on the backside of your jersey and must be visible at all times in order to receive first-aid and rest stop support. An additional numbered sticker is also provided to be placed on the front of each rider’s helmet (which is required for all riders). These numbers are also used for identification with event photography. TIMING TAGS Professional Timing Tags are being provided for all riders by CCR Timing (ccrtiming.com). The timing tag should be worn on the rider’s shoe and remain in a loop, not flattened out. This electronic tag will enable each loop of the race to be professionally timed by CCR Timing. Timing tags will be distributed at registration. POWER STOP ON TOP The “Power Stop on Top” is one mile past the Start/Finish Line at Lea Lake offering a reward for the challenging uphill climb. Riders will be offered water by tour volunteers as they ride by. POWER STOP AFTER THE DROP This Power Stop is located at the Ranger’s Station on the lower road following the descent from the high road. Water bottle refills (self-serve) and restrooms will all be available for those needing to stop and take a break. SAG CYCLES SAG Motorcycles will be on the course throughout the tour. They will be carrying basic tools for repairs, spare tubes, first-aid kits, and emergency water. If a medical emergency exists, please call 911 first then signal a SAG Cyclist. All SAG Motorcycles will be connected by radios to the onsite ambulance, parked at the finish line. 5
SAFETY TIPS – PLEASE TAKE NOTICE • Stay Right. Pass only on the left. The only exception is the Tour Finish (see below). • NEVER cross the center yellow line. • Verbally indicate that you are passing. “Passing.” • Use hand and verbal signals when exiting or slowing down. “Slowing,” “Stopping.” • Verbally indicate any road hazards or “Trash.” • Approved helmets are required for ALL riders. No exceptions! • Although traffic is minimal during the event and required to travel one-way clockwise, please assist motorists in passing as soon as possible. If you finish early, please feel free to join the crowd at the finish line to congratulate your fellow riders on a job well done!
