SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK , SALAR DE UYUNI,

  CLIMBING TUNUPA (5432M) AND UTURUNCU (6008M),

The first part of out trip takes us to Sajama National Park ancient forest and classic volcano
mountains. After Sajama we head south along the border of Chile and Bolivia. Along the way
we pass lakes, Inca tombs and a chance to see wild life. The
following days are spend around the salt flats of Uyuni, where we
head all the way down to the south of Bolivia and visit Laguna
Colarada, Laguna Verde and the many of the other lakes with
different colors. We also climb Volacano Tunupa and Uturuncu.
From these mountains we have spectral views of the area. After
our accent we head to Uyuni, Potosi to visit one of the oldest
mines in South America, with a long history. Next is the city of
Sucre the capital of Bolivia. The last part we head down to the
low lands and visit the Madidi National Park in the Amazon. One of the most divers and complex
ecological systems on earth. On this part we will see wild and plant life

Highlights: Church at Carahuara de Carangas, the 16th
chapel of the Altiplano, visiting the hot springs found in
Parque Nacional Sajama and the village of Sajama, Visiting
the Salar de Uyuni and the surrounding area, including
Laguna Colorada, Laguna verde, Laguna Canapa, Laguna
Hedionda, Laguna Chiar Khota, Laguna Honda, Polques hot
springs, visiting the small towns of Sajama, Uyuni, Jirira,
Coqueza mummies, Wildlife including Llamas, Vicuñas,
Flamingos, La Gruta de Galaxias, Lago Macaya, Inca Tombs of
Macaya, Salar de Coipasa, salt hotel, salt mining and train
cemetery, reaching the summit of Tunupa and Uturuncu.
Other sites are train cemetery, Cerro Rico mines Potosi, La
Moneda, Dinosaur foot prints at Sucre, Madidi park, RIo
Tuichi. Cites of Uyuni, Potosi, Sucre, La Paz and
Rurrenabaque

PROGRAM
Day 1: Airport – La Paz
     Meet we guide and transfer to hostel                                      Madidi park
     45 minutes, Hostel 3*

Day 2: La Paz
     Free day in the city of La Paz
     (B) Hostel 3*

Day 3: La Paz (3600m) – Sajama Village
     (4300m)
     We will drive from La Paz through El
     Alto and onto the Altiplano (4000m),
     which is open and dry. We will see
     people in this area living and herding
     there llamas. Along the way we will
     stop at Carahuara de Carangas church,
     the 16th chapel of the Altiplano.From a
     long distance we get views of Sajama,
     lonely by itself. We will stay the night in the village of Sajama. Later we can visit the
     hot springs and Laguna Huana Khota .
     4 - 5 hours driving with stops (BLD) Hostel
Day 4: Sajama Village (4300m) – Salar de Coipasa (3786m) - Jirira (3656m)
     We head out early for the beautifully drive to Jirira. We drive near the Chile/Bolivian
     border. We make stops along the way to visit Lake Macaya, Inca Tombs, Salar de
     Coipasa and other small villages. We spent the night in the small village of Jirira.
     7 – 9 hours driving, with stops (BLD) Hostel

Day 5: Jirira (3670m) – Volcan Tunupa (5432m) – Jirira
     We have an early start in the morning to climb to the crater rim of Tunupa. We can
     drive the first bit up a road. At the end of the road we start our accent. We have great
     views of the Salar and the surrounding area. We won’t be able the reach the very
     summit of Tunupa as it’s mainly loss rock. We head back to down the same way and
     drive back to the hostel at Jirira.
     1 hour driving, 6 – 7 hours walking (BLD) Hostel

Day 6: Jirira (3656m) - Uyuni Salt Flats (3653m) - Isla de Incahuasi – San Juan (3669m)
     Today has to be one of the most spectacular. We visit the salt flats of the Salar. We
     make stops at Isla Incahuasi, were you can take a walk around the island. We stop for
     lunch here, so there’s plenty of time to take photos of this natural wonder. Later we
     head to La Gruta de Galaxias, a strange formation of rock in a cave. From there we
     head to the village of San Juan, where we spend the night.
     5 – 6 hours driving, with stops (BLD) Hostel

Day 7: San Juan (3670m) – Laguna Colarada (4600m)
     Our drive today we pass lots of lakes with different colors and we
     can see a variety of wild life including Flamencos. Driving through
     the valleys of this arid area we can see rock formations with colors
     of reds, yellows and whites. Some of the                               Laguna Verde
     sights today are Laguna Canapa,
     Laguna Hedionda, Laguna Chiar Khota,
     Laguna Honda, Arbol de Piedra and we
     enter National park Eduardo Avaroa.
     5 – 6 hours driving, with stops
     (BLD) Hostel

Day 8: Laguna Colorada (4287m) –
     Laguna Verde (4400m) –
     Quetana Chico (4200m)
     First stop today is Laguna Colarada,
     Later we stop at Sol de Manana, then
     it’s onto Polques hot springs. Near the
     end of the road we have Laguna verde
     and Laguna Blanca. We head back to
     Polques and onto Quetana Chico.
     7 – 8 hours driving, with stops (BLD) Hostel

Day 9: Quetana Chico – Uturuncu (6088m) – Quetana Chico
     We have an early start to climb Uturuncu. We first drive as high as we can with the
     4x4. At the end of the road is where we start our climbing. This can depend on how
     much snow there is but the 4x4 can reach around 5700m. From here we follow the
     road up to the saddle and from there a small track takes us to the summit. Same way
     back down to Quetana Chico.
     10 - 8 hours, with stops (BLD) Hostel

Day 10: Quetana Chico – Villmar (4020m) - Uyuni (3600m)
     After breakfast we drive to Uyuni. We make some stops along the way and visit some
     of the villages. Just before Uyuni we stop at the train cemetery.
     5 - 6 hours driving, with stops (BLD) Hotel

Day 11: Uyuni – Potosi (4090m)
     Today we head east, first passing the town of Pulacayo an important mining center of
     the second part of the 19th Century and is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
     Later we arrive in Potosi and can visit La Moneda museum. In the evening we will book
     a mining tour for the following day.

Day 12: Potosi
     Free day in Potosi for mining tour
     (BLD) Hotel

Day 13: Potosi – Sucre (2790m)
     We have a short drive to Sucre. In the afternoon we can make a visit of the city. We
     notice the climate is much warmer.
     3 – 4 hours of driving (BLD) Hotel

Day 14: Sucre
     Free day to visit the city of Sucre. Have use of transport to visit the dinosaur foot
     prints (Parque Cretacico) , and later we can drive to one of the lookouts for a view of
     the city and surrounding area.

Day 15: Sucre – La Paz
     We want to early start today as we have a long drive to back to La Paz. We first have to
     drive back to Potosí and from there take the road to Oruro and then onto La Paz
     10 – 12 hours driving (BLD) Hostel

Day 16: La Paz – Rurrenabaque – River camp
     Today we take a flight to Rurrenabaque. Once in Rurrenabaque we meet up with our
     tour operator and take a boat out to the camp along the Rio Tuichi.
     3 hours by boat, 1 hour flight (BLD) Cabanas

Day 17: Rio Tuichi
     We will make a tour of the area where we have the chance to see plants and wild life.
     Guide will explain the names of the plants etc.

Day 18: Rio Tuichi – Rurrenabaque
     We take the boat back in the morning to Rurrenabaque. We spend the night in
     Rurrenabaque and have time to visit the village.
     3 hours by boat (BLD) Hostel

Day 19: Rurrenabaque – La Paz
     Early flight back to La Paz. Farewell dinner in La Paz.
     Transfer to Hotel 1 hour flight, 45 minutes driving, (BLD) Hostel

Day 20: La Paz – Airport
     Transfer to airport 45 minutes (B)
