Pastor’s Column Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, So much of our prayer comes down to SURRENDER … surrendering to THY will over MY will. Isn’t that the ultimate struggle for all of us? During this Advent Season, I want to once again strongly encourage you all to pray “The Surrender Novena” given by Jesus to Fr. Dolindo Ruotolo. Day 1 of the Novena is so beautifully powerful in its simplicity. It states quite simply and quite sublimely: “Why do you confuse yourselves by worrying? Leave the care of your affairs to ME and everything will be peaceful. I say to you in truth that every act of true, blind, complete surrender to ME produces the effect that you desire and resolves all difficult situations." Freeing ourselves from worry over things we cannot control is one of the most difficult things in the world. I know it is for me. So let’s all unite ourselves in this posture of prayerful surrender during the Advent season. May God bless you all! Yours in Christ, Fr. Dan Shaughnessy Please join the St. Joseph Parish community as we celebrate a Journey through Bethlehem on December 21, 2019, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. We are planning to have a living Nativity with real animals, an innkeeper, shepherds, wise men, angels, Mary, and Joseph. 4 DECEMBER 15, 2019

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! —Gaudete Sunday Gaudete Sunday—Rejoice! But true joy comes by way of true repentance, so John the Baptist reminds us. The desire for holiness, the pursuit of genuine freedom from sin and death—these are the things that inspire us first to renounce evil and then to prepare a way for Christ to enter our hearts, minds, and souls to bring not only mercy, forgiveness, healing, consolation, and peace—but also the authentic Christian joy arising from redeeming grace.
