Page Three Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time February 20, 2022 FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Parishioners, This coming Tuesday St. Alexander’s eighth grade school, RE, and Polish school children will be re- ceiving the gift of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Our young adults have worked very hard, attended a retreat, and spent countless hours preparing for this sacrament. Please keep them all in your prayers this week as they anticipate their Confirmation administered by Bishop Kevin Birmingham. Just as a reminder I ask you to please purchase and return your tickets for this year’s annual raffle at the parish office, in the offering basket, or through the mail. Proceeds from this raffle will be of great assis- tance to our parish, school, R.E. program, and other parish ministries. The raffle will be held on Saturday, February 26th. Unfortunately, with the cold of winter, the snow and slush, the early sunsets, we as a people suffer from the occasional winter “blahs”. The continuing pandemic, wearing of masks, political bickering, fear of armed conflict on the Ukraine/Russian border doesn't help much to pick up our spirits. It is at this time we as a faith filled people must turn to the Lord in prayer where we find true peace. It is also at this time we remember that we have been blessed with a strong loving community at St. Alexander Parish. One of the beautiful aspects of attending Sunday Mass is that we realize that we not only need to hear the Gospel of our Lord and receive Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist but that we need the support of our fellow parish- ioners. Many times when we are at Mass and are struggling with different aspects of our lives we come to the awareness that others in the pews are experiencing similar difficulties. We are community and need each other. If you know of anyone who has stopped attending Sunday Mass due to the pandemic, or for other reasons, encourage them to return and find peace and comfort with our Lord and the St. Alexander community. If they need a little incentive remind them that masks are now optional for all liturgies in the church. Finally, please remember to mark your calendars for March 14th, 15th, and 16th, the dates of this year’s Parish Mission. More information with be forthcoming in future bulletins. Page Five Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time February 20, 2022 Catholic Schools Offer PLEASE NOTE Academic Excellence and The Parish Administrative Faith-Filled Education Offices will be closed on Monday, February 21st Catholic schools offer academic excellence and faith-filled education for students nationwide. National test scores, high school graduation rates, college attendance and other data show that Catholic schools frequently out perform schools in both public and private sectors. While some Catholic schools are challenged by declining enrollments and school closures, the good news is that there is a strong demand and enthusiasm for Catholic schools — many have waiting lists for admission and new schools are opening. Visit www.ncea.org for information. Spiritual Direction/ Companion Ministry Check out our Facebook Pages: St. Alexander Catholic Church Who is God for you? St. Alexander School Are you ready to see God’s activity in all things? St. Alexander Youth Ministry Would you like to explore a deeper experience of God through Spiritual Companionship? I’m Deacon Mike Ciciura and I am a permanent deacon here at St. Alexander’s parish and a certified Spiritual Director/Companion. Simply defined, this ministry is one of compassionate, respectful, confidential engagement- listening through conversation about the light of faith. Spiritual Direction/Companioning helps us to see more clearly what God is asking of us and how God is acting in our lives. It’s about acknowledging life’s great “unfixables”-the things we are unable to change. It’s about moving through the mysteries of time, experience, love, mortality, and life. Spiritual direction/companionship is an ancient ministry. Throughout Hebrew and Christian tradition people sought spiritual counsel. Hermits, Monks, mystics and saints offered spiritual counsel as did those of other faith experiences. What is your response to God? Could you trust me with your sacred story, your struggle, your questions? I’m available in person at St. Alexander’s parish, by phone or email. Page Six Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time February 20, 2022 ST. ALEXANDER PARISH LENTEN MISSION 2022 St. Alexander is blessed to have Father Richard Fragomeni as our Lenten Mission speaker. The theme of our Mission is “Lenten Meditations for Dif icult Times”. Rev. Richard Fragomeni is a presbyter of the Diocese of Albany, New York, and has been a member of the Catholic Theological Union faculty since 1990. His teaching involves him in Roman Catholic theology, interpretation theory, and poetry. His current work is in the ield of word and sacrament: the intersection of symbolic activity and language as it creates insights into the Christian proclamation of grace. Central to this work is a fascination with the power of liturgy and preaching in the transformation of the human heart. Richard is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Religious Studies at DePaul University. He also serves as the Rector of The Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, an Italian- American spiritual center in Chicago’s historic Little Italy. The Mission is scheduled for Monday March 14th through Wednesday March 16th. Each evening will begin at 7:00 and last approximately 60 to 75 minutes. Fr. Fragomeni will be here to preach at all the masses prior to the Mission except for the Sunday evening mass at 6:00 . Please plan to join us for our Mission and don’t forget to invite your neighbors! Page Seven Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time February 20, 2022 ST.ALEXANDER SCHOOL HAPPENINGS The staff and students had a great time celebrating our Catholic identity during Catholic Schools Week! We enjoyed many activities that built community bonds that will last a lifetime. The 100th day of school was recognized by dressing up as our 100 year old selves. The entire school played several games of BINGO over the loudspeaker. Everyone enjoyed showing what they have learned when “Wheel of Wisdom” came to town.
