Page Two August 22, 2021 Mass Intentions DECISIONS There is an axiom that states, “Not to decide is to for the Week decide.” This saying was popular in the turbulent times of the Vietnam War. It urged us not to allow others to answer Saturday ~ August 21 the moral questions raised by our nation’s involvement in 8:00 a.m. Martin Amaya + that terrible conflict, but to decide for ourselves. Making 4:00 p.m. Matt Brewer + such choices is never easy. Avoiding them is common. 5:30 p.m. Jose Bulatao + - Birthday Blessings Jesus, for his part, was not only a gallant risk-taker, but a 7:30 p.m. Nicolas Bueno + clear decision-maker. As he pursued the mission to which Sunday ~ August 22 the Father called him, he continually decided for us and for 6:30 a.m. Virginia V. Empante +, Helen Rose + & the Father. He worked hard to lay out a scenario that would Diana Rose + - Birthdays enable others to make similar choices. Never did he make 8:15 a.m. All Parishioners decisions for others or force others into decisions, even 10:00 a.m. Patrick McBee + - 6 Year Death Anniversary decisions that had eternal ramifications. Jesus is inviting 12:00 p.m. Carlos Mingia +, Diego Vinueza Vaca + & us to make such decisions today. We won’t be absolutely Manuel Martinez +, Ernesto Hernandez +, sure. What is sure, however, is the command that issues Juvenal Martinez + from God’s word: Take the risk. Decide! 3:00 p.m. Teresita Jauregui + - Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. 1 Year Death Anniversary 5:00 p.m. John Duncan + Monday ~ August 23 8:00 a.m. Maria Peralta + TODAY’S READINGS Tuesday ~ August 24 First Reading — Joshua challenges the Israelites to serve 8:00 a.m. Luciano Quiroga + either the Lord or other gods. Sacrament of the Sick / AnoinƟng of the Sick In the Church's Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, through the ministry of the priest, it is Jesus who touches the sick to heal them from sin – and sometimes even from physical ailment. His cures were signs of the arrival of the Kingdom of God. The core message of his healing tells us of his plan to conquer sin and death by his dying and rising. The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient. When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age. taken from USCCB
