This event is now in the twenty first year of being held at the Toronto International Auto Show. It is run by Centennial College and sponsored by Volkswagen, and Toronto area new car dealers, along with several other partners. Andrew and Dan successfully represented the proud Spartans of Stouffville DSS by placing FOURTH among high schools with Transportation Technology Departments from all over Ontario. This is the best finish ever for our school. They worked very hard to prepare and narrowly missed the chance go on to compete for over $250,000 in prizes at the National Finals in the United States. This was another excellent year for the competition. Trillium Automotive Dealers from all makes of cars were standing by with job opportunities for prospective apprentices. The races between the teams were tight, and only a few percentage points separated many teams. All entrants brought home prizes from Canadian Tire and Snap-On. Dan and Andrew will also receive plaques to take home and their names on the SDSS Automotive Skills trophy to commemorate their outstanding achievement. In the photo Andrew is receiving his first place trophy at the York Region Automotive Skills Competition held on November 26, 2019 at MDHS. A huge shout out to their amazing and dedicated teacher Mr. Bortolin who worked with the boys encouraging and mentoring them every day. News from the Music Department An additional award was given to our Wind Symphony from last week's OBA Festival. At the end of the festival, the entire week's worth of bands is looked at holistically and the adjudication team awarded our band a Woodwind Excellence Award. They were very impressed with our soloists and overall tone quality and musicianship of our woodwind section. Congratulations ....you guys worked hard and earned it!

These women were all put into lower class positions, due to their race and gender. We have decided to show this movie because it is
demonstrative of the hardships that racialized individuals, particularly women of colour, have suffered over the years. Hidden Figures reminds us to commemorate them, as well as to celebrate all of their accomplishments and achievements. Pink Shirt Day Pink Shirt Day is a globally recognized day in support of anti-bullying, upstanding behaviour and simple acts of kindness. On February 26, 2020, we are encouraged to practice kindness and wear pink to show that we do not tolerate bullying. In honour of Pink Shirt Day, YRDSB Caring and Safe Schools is looking to celebrate the everyday upstanders, those students who stand up to bullying and/or exemplify kindness in their schools.
