In my short time as Executive Director with The Shack, one thing that stands out above and beyond all else is heart! Each person I have met cares deeply and genuinely for the children and families we serve. I have such a deep appreciation for each and every one of The Shack’s dedicated and hard working volunteers and staff, and I know there is no greater reward than the opportunity to work with passionate volunteers in an outstanding organization. Get to know them below! Vicki Cooper, MSW Intern Hi everyone! My name is Vicki Cooper. I am a Master's of Social Work student with a bachelor's degree in Women's and Gender Studies from WVU. I'm from Charleston, WV but have been in Morgantown for 5 years now. I am a cat mom to two and a passionate lover of tattoos, cartoons, and video games. All that you really need to know about me is that I want to serve my community and help others whenever I can. I look forward to this coming year! Alayna Fuller, AmeriCorps I am Alayna Fuller a Senior at WVU. I am a member of AmeriCorps. Currently I am volunteering at The Shack Neighborhood House and Mylan Park Elementary School. 2
Emilee Hough, AmeriCorps VISTA My name is Emilee Hough and I am very excited to become a part of this incredible organization! I recently graduated from West Virginia University with dual degrees in Sociology and English. I am a Morgantown native and in my free time I like to read, write, and design costumes. I am a director at West Virginia University’s Youth Theatre Academy and am interested in developing programs to build and encourage performing arts in the Morgantown area. Tyler Walls, AmeriCorps Hi! My name is Tyler! I am a recent graduate of the CDFS program at WVU. My career aspirations are to become a child life specialist coordinator. Some of my favorite things to do are play basketball, hike and listening to Kanye. Buddy Leach, AmeriCorps My name is Buddy Leach, I’m 19 years old and I just recently graduated from high school. I am currently serving in the Lifebridge AmeriCorps program at the Shack Neighborhood House as well as in welding courses at MTEC to soon get a place of employment in that field. 3
Success of the Month Kids Start the Year Off Right With Fresh Haircuts From Toni’s Fi een children from The Shack Neighborhood House and the Family Resource Center will be going back to school looking their best thanks to Toni’s Exquisite Hair Salon. Toni’s generously provided cuts and styles free of charge for the second year in a row in a collaboration with The Shack and the FRN. Thanks to Toni’s, these children will be able to start the school year with a trim or in some cases a whole new look! Toni’s Exquisite Hair is located at 918 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Morgantown WV 26505 and can be reached by calling 304-599-3773 or by emailing toniexq@frontier.com. Reminders Your child must be registered to participate in Outside School Environment programs. Save the Date! The Shack will celebrate its 90th birthday on November 17th! Any helping this event happen would be greatly appreciated. Please contact The Shack for opportunities to contribute. Recurring Program Descriptions ❏ Play Group - A free program for parents/caregivers and their children ages 0-3. Meets every Monday and Wednesday from 10:00-11:30. Transportation services are available by calling 304-680-0568. Parents must stay with child. Free play, storytime, cra s, and snack provided. Pre-registration is not required. ❏ Respite - Drop-off program for parents to take a break. For children ages 3 months-4. The program is offered on Fridays from 9:30am-1:00pm. Registration and a bagged lunch is required. Please call 304-680-0568 by 5:00pm on Wednesdays to register. ❏ Happy School - Fun, educational opportunities three mornings a week (Tuesday-Thursday) from 9:30am-noon for children ages 3 and 4. You must be enrolled in this class to attend. 5
