St Patrick’s Primary School Together in Faith & Learning Week 3 Term 1 2021 From Pope Francis about Lent 'Dear brothers and sisters, every moment of our lives is a time for believing, hoping and loving. The call to experience Lent as a journey of conversion, prayer and sharing of our goods, helps us – as communities and as individuals – to revive the faith that comes from the living Christ, the hope inspired by the breath of the Holy Spirit and the love flowing from the merciful heart of the Father.' Lent Yesterday we began Lent, Ash Wednesday. Lent is an opportunity for us all to revisit our relationship with God. It’s a time where we do something that is a little bit hard, to help us remember to focus on getting closer to God. I think that there is no point giving up coffee, for example, if it is going to make you grumpy. There is no joy in that for anyone, including God. Once I said that each time that I hear a ‘tui’ I would say a particular prayer of hope. Below is a link that will take you to some activities/prayers that you can do at home with your family https://caritas.org.nz/lent-0 Camp Please pray for our Senior students who started their camp on Wednesday. We go to Palm Grove near Paraparaumu, every two years. It is an exciting time that also can challenge students along with strengthening their friendships and leadership qualities. A huge thank you to Helen who organises this each time. More information and photos will be presented after we come back. Covid-19 The recent lockdown of Auckland, is a reminder that it can happen to any city in NZ at very short notice. The only way for us to contact you is through the information that you have given us. If it has changed since last lockdown, please let us know. E.g. address for laptops to be delivered, phone numbers for text alerts etc . Either email or phone Leanne admin@spps.school.nz or when you are in the school next, check the list with your information on to see that it is all correct and up to date. Parent evenings Thanks so much for coming along and sharing food and information last week. Please keep in touch with your child’s class teacher if there is anything changing at home, e.g. a sick grandparent, change of jobs etc. These all have an impact on the child and it is very helpful to know about them, so that we can support your child more effectively. Sports’ teams Netball Will be upon us soon. You will be asked if you want your child to play. Terms 2 and 3. Please set aside about $50 for the fees and referee expenses. If some of you wish to run a BBQ at Bunnings and the money raised goes to the Netball costs, please let me know. I’m happy for the profits from the BBQ to pay for the child of the parents who help. Basketball Basketball is expensive. At least $50 per player if there are 10 players per team. If people are interested in entering a team again, we will need the money in advance. A BBQ at Bunnings can make up to $500 which would pay for a team completely. Once again, let me know if you are interested.

Happy Birthday to You! This fortnight we pray for the following children who have celebrated or will celebrate their birthdays in January and February this year. St Patricks Welcomes Hail Dahya and his family into the room 1 class. We also welcome George Puzikov and Hana Leota-Johnson both into the new entrant class. & their families We had Joel Jopson visiting today, Joel will start next week. Our Mercy Values Encourage your child to think about our Mercy values and write a prayer for our prayer wall.
We are a Positive Behaviour for Learning School. We encourage our children to be Go getters, this means that they are ready to learn, respectful of people and property and take responsi- bility for their actions. Ask your children about our new traffic light system that encourages our students to take on leadership and make good choices. This is how our Traffic light system works: • Every class uses the Traffic Light system to monitor DAILY student behaviour. • Every student starts on the green zone each day. • When a student makes positive choices, in particular the ones that you are focusing on that week, THEY get to move their name up to pink – great choices! If throughout the day a student continues to make positive choices, ( we link these choices to our PB4L values, the 3RS of being ready to learn, responsible for actions , respectful of people and property) then the student moves up to the yellow light and is a Go getter for the day. Those on Go Getters 2 or more times a week get to take home a special certificate that acknowledges their efforts. Go Getter certificates are presented in assembly and acknowledged in the newsletter. So keep an eye out for certificates coming home so we can all celebrate your child/ren’s success.
