Sir John Thompson Weekly Updates – February 2021 Friday, February 4th, 2021 Happy positive Friday to all our families. Todays reading comes to us from Hebrews (13:1-8). “Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have unknowingly entertained angels. Be mindful of prisoners as if sharing their imprisonment, and of the ill-treated as of yourselves, for you also are in the body….. “. This excerpt reminds me of the true value to be had in helping others and being mindful of other people’s situations. We certainly are fortunate to have such a supportive community that has always thought of others. This past week Ms. Molyneux and I have been doing grade 6 presentations to our feeder schools and forming next year’s cohort of students in grade 7. In these presentations we show pictures of the many ways that we instill in our children the value of helping others without any thought of gain for themselves. The social justice initiatives here at Sir John Thompson certainly go a long way to form our children into champions of those in need. Whether it be the Sign of Hope Campaign, snow shoveling in the community, or the February Food drive. Our future grade 6 students are very excited to be a part of helping others. Thank you for raising great kids! We certainly appreciate your support. Take care everyone and stay warm in the coming week! Kelly L. Kaup – Principal SJT. Thanks, Monica Murphy Grade 6 Class Visit – St. Timothy and St. Angela This week Mrs. Molyneux and Mr. Kaup continued our virtual presentation tour with our feeder schools. We had a great time visiting the amazing students at St. Timothy on Monday. Thank you to Mrs. Schmidt who always does an amazing job at preparing her students for a successful transition to grade 7 at SJT. Today we visited the in-school students at St. Angela and the online cohort of students from both St. Angela and St. Lucy. It truly was an amazing experience to connect with our future
students in their classrooms and in their homes. We even got to say hello to several brothers and sisters who graduated from SJT over the last two years. The SJT class of 2024 looks like a great group that certainly is looking forward to joining our SJT family next year. Thank you to Ms. Krausert and Ms. Clark for welcoming us virtually into their classes and their help in facilitating all the great questions. Student Teachers On Monday February 8th we would like to welcome to our school community two student teachers from the University of Alberta. Mr. Puffer will be joining Madame Berube in French and Mr. Hoang will be joining Mr. Engebretson in Math. Each of our student teachers will be working closely with their cooperating teachers in learning the art of teaching. We look forward to their youthful enthusiasm in contributing to the Sir John Thompson community. Extreme Weather expected next week In times of extreme weather conditions our Division Transportation Services may need to send information to families regarding the cancellation of Yellow Bus services. We certainly hope that this will not be the case, but I wanted to let families know how they will find out this information should the need arise. I have cut out an excerpt from our divisions Transportation department letter with information regarding the Cancellation of Yellow Bus Services and how this will be communicated to families should this happen. Please ensure that your child dresses warmly next week! _____________________________________________________________________________________
