President’s Message 2018 Learn, laugh, share, grow! On behalf of the New Liskeard Agriculture Society, I would like to invite you to attend our 116th New Liskeard fall fair. The New Liskeard fall fair is one of Northern Ontario’s largest fairs featuring three action packed days of agricultural activities, animal shows, entertainment, and many other attractions. This year’s fair will feature livestock shows and sales, light and draft horse shows, and entertainment including a harvest queen contest and some of our great local talent. You also don’t want to miss the horticulture, home craft and junior exhibits, agriculture awareness tent, midway, concessions and craft beer garden. We would like to thank our many volunteers and sponsors who make our event possible. Without the support of our generous community, we would not have been able to make this event as successful as it is today. As an added bonus, we have some other exciting news for you! In addition to our 116th New Liskeard fall fair, we will be hosting the RCMP Musical Ride in June 2018, featuring two evening performances on June 5th and 6th. We hope to see you all out to enjoy the 2018 New Liskeard Fall Fair in September and the RCMP Musical Ride in June! Please watch for upcoming information and updates on our Facebook page and website at www.newliskeardfallfair.ca. HARVEST QUEEN PAGEANT A message from your 2018 Harvest Queen Brayden D'Arcey I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to be this year's New Liskeard Fall Fair Board and Friends of Festivals, Harvest Queen. The Harvest Queen pageant gave me the chance to build confidence, improve on social skills and meet several amazing people. Our local Fall Fair has been a huge part of my life since I was young and I have been honoured to be included for the past six months representing our amazing community. Being a Harvest Queen contestant was an exciting time in my life that I will never forget. This was an amazing opportunity to meet inspiring women like Sherri Knott (Kidd) and Jessica Knott. I gained skills that I will be able to apply to interviewing, public speaking and socializing in general and I will value that for the rest of my life. All contestants were and are grateful to have learned about our community, helped with the fair and to make strong relationships with one another. I had the opportunity to travel to Toronto to represent New Liskeard at the 2018 Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies. I met girls that have similar task duties as I that represent their local Fall Fairs, this gave me new friendships and ideas for our fair. I was part of several sessions focused on the Canadian National Exhibition, upcoming changes to this year's Ambassador of the Fairs and helpful social skills. This competition is meant to be seen as an opportunity to show interviewing skills and a professional manner, rather than a typical pageant. This weekend also showed me the importance of agriculture in our society and having youth involved in our communities. This made me realize the huge positive impact that the Fall Fair has on our town and all the incredible people in it. I am so grateful for the chance to have attended this even and would like to thank the New Liskeard Fall Fair Board and Sharron Graydon for this amazing opportunity. My weekend in Toronto for this convention is one I will never forget and am so grateful to have had. I am looking forward to being a participant in the CNE Ambassador of the Fairs Competition as well as the Miss Northern Ontario Competition. Thank you to all of those who have supported and helped me reach my goals as this years Harvest Queen. I will continue to do my absolute best as I represent our community! Your 2017 Harvest Queen, Brayden D'Arcey 8
